A student passes out on the field and the school nurse is called to the field. How would you go about the situation? I know everyone is different but I'm just wondering how others would handle this situation.

What do you mean exactly? The steps you'd take in any situation where you first assess a patient are always going to be the same: ABC's, mechanism of injury, etc.

i agree - grab my go bag, grab the AED and high tail it out there. My cell phone is always in my pocket and i am not concerned with the minor ailments that would normally come to my office while i'm attending to a student in such distress.

Hopefully, if the student was really unconscious, they'd call 911 and then call the school nurse.
There are 11 campuses in my district and I'm the only nurse. Staff is trained to call 911 first.

My response follows the premise that there's no athletic trainer on site. They're usually MUCH better at sports first aid than nurses are.
I would grab my go-bag, my AED, and my cell phone. Then I'm going to approach the situation like I have done many, many times before... ABC, consider C-spine, LOC... primary and secondary surveys while gathering history of the event and the athlete.
