Hi everyone! So I will be starting FNP program on winter next year. I have a toddler and an infant. Any tips on how to survive NP school with my hands full with my kids and working part time?

Do you have some help and support with the kids? It makes life a lot easier to be able top have some time carved out for your studies. Are you planning on school part time and work part time?

Keep in mind that part-time grad school will still be rather time-demanding: 4+ hours/wk class time, 12+ hours/wk outside study time, and lab/clinical time (which by the end of the program could be as high as 20+ hours/wk.

My mom and my husband will be helping me with the kids. I'll be doing the program online and only planning to take one class at a time. Also, I'll only be working part-time.

Good that'll make life easier on you.

The best advice I can give you is carve out time each week that is for you and your studies; treat this like it's a work day and you can't easily change or bend it. If you don't do this then you study time will be the first thing sacrificed when family life gets hectic (which we know it does all the time) and it will lead towards stress and a bad investment in your future.

Good luck

That advice made me feel a little better because I dont want to be overwhelmed with a handful of responsibilities. Thanks for that insight! I super appreciate it.

I'll get back to you in December since this is my first semester! I have three kids, ages 13, 10, and 7. They all have activities afterschool as well, but my husband and mom take them to those. So I try to study whenever they're in school. My classes are every other Fri, Sat, Sun. I do clinicals on Monday (9hrs), then work Tuesday & Wednesday (12hr shifts). I have a calendar to keep track of it all. I'm in an accelerated program, so I'll be done in 16 months. You can do anything for 1.5 years :).

Yeah, I worked fulltime while attending my FNP studies. Its very tough no doubt. However, it you break it into digestible pieces and do one seemingly impossible task at a time it will get done. Good luck to you!!!

Wow! Yeah..pls give me an update. Thanks and goodluck to you!

I am in your boat!! I have 2 semesters left of my FNP program. I have a 16 month old and a 2 month old. I also work part time. Thankfully I have a great daycare and a supportive husband. That being said I've had to put things like reading for pleasure, social life and my beloved Zumba classes on hold for now. You have to be willing to sacrifice and be one hell of a time manger. You'll do just fine!
