Student loans

Nursing Students General Students

I am a first year nursing student and was wondering if anybody has gotten a student loan to help them through the program. What are the best loans for nursing students, and will a hospital normally pay your loan if you sign a contract with them when you are out of school?

The best student loans are federal, sometimes you can get them subsidized, and they have the best interest rates too. First step is to fill out the FAFSA on the web. Do a search for it because I don't know the web address, but if you fill it out they will direct you towards the next step.

Good luck!

If you are single, and your income is low or the lack there of, you can apply for a PELL grant, through the government at your school. These monies do NOT have to be paid back to the government.

If you don't fall into those catergories then your financial aid counselor will help you fill out your FAFSA, which is the federal government monies, which have to be paid back starting 6 months after you graduate or leave school. Depending on your major and your school determines the amount of money you can receive from the government.

As far as student loans go, I applied to Chase student loans. There is also Sallie Mae and Astrive, all of which were suggested by my financial aid advisor. Be aware that these ARE credit based. If you are a full-time student, you will almost always have to have a co-signor for your loans. These particular companies I mentioned, you can get up to 30-40,000 per school year for your school. Those monies are sent directly to YOU and you pay for what you need to pay for. Those monies can be used for anything, like rent, car payments. As I said these are credit based so if you have, or your co-signor has borderline credit, your interest will be higher. These particular companies also have a payback that does not penalize you for early pay off, so you can avoid a lot of the interest of the loan.

Good luck and talk to your school financial aid office. They are there to help you with these issues, use the resources of your school.
