I keep reading about new nurses saddled with $100,000 worth of student loan debt. I'm curious about this. Are these students using their loans to live off of while they attend school or are they attending very expensive schools? You could almost buy a house for that amount. How common is that level of debt?
Say they spent 60 thousand on their first degree and then got out in the market and realized it's not getting them jobs, like the one girl saying her Theater degree has been worthless. Obviously that isn't a case where any kind of education is good and the money not a waist. That degree served her no purpose but to go back to school and get into the hole even further to obtain a degree that will actually be beneficial. It's not always a financial benefit.
Yes, lots of 2nd or 3rd degree nursing students racking up this debt. But then again, is it about the education, or the drunken frat pictures that make us laugh years later?
wait, didnt you say previously that you have a payment on one of your cars? and may need to take out a SL to help pay for day care?Let's face it, being smart about your debt is to have NO debt at all.
Isnt this a bit hypocritical? How can you talk about one person's debt when you carry your own?
Again, I will say, its all relative. If you have the money to afford the payments, then how is that exactly being irresponsible and reckless?

Hmmm. A small student loan (which the PP never said not to carry BTW) to help pay for child care for someone with 4 kids, or 100,000 dollars in debt to help pay for "friendship" "meeting interesting people" and "experiences"...
Really? We really have to explain the difference to you?
Wow,
Questions to all you no-debtors posting. It seems you all have the "perfect plan"!!
Are you saving for for your children college?
Also, If you child was accepted into Princeton University and was planning to major in history- what would be your advise?
You may have no debt, but 4 kids, you should be saving at least 200 hundred dollars per kid a month to come even close to properly finacing their education.
Welp the person with the debt has one kid. They are now in the same financial position as the person who had the debt-free rn.
Point being...it all depends on the person!!!
Well, if my reproductive system knew how to play well with others, and I was lucky enough in this world to actually have a child, then yes. I would absolutely pay for my childs education.
I would be heartbroken if they chose history as thier major. But, I would tell them, that I would pay what I had saved up for them, and that they were responsible for the rest.
I'd rather their school be less prissy, and more real world anyway. But if they chose Princton, and we hadn't saved enough, and their grades weren't good enough for scholorships, etc, then they's be SOL.
Yep. They's actually have to work! I know, I know, such a foreign concept to some....

Wow,
Its still a loan- and the poster is saying to have NO DEBT. Maybe she should take some time off from school to save..especially if its such a small loan!

Wow,
You must be confusing me with someone else. I do not have that amount in SL debt. Do I have SL debt? Yes. I have freely admitted that. But even if I did have $100k in SL debt, if I am able to make my monthly payments, again, how is that my being irresponsible?
And so what if people enjoyed their college experiences? That is neither here or there. Does their having a bit of fun in college affect you in any way?
now now, no need to get angry and bash your head into a wall. I dont know why you are getting upset about how others decide to fund their education.
I am not upset at all, I just said it was like banging my head into the wall, when I get nothing but excuses back. But nope, not upset here, I am not the one with a rude awakening coming my way when the bill collectors come to collect.

Perhaps my post on that topic wasn't very clear but the same laws apply to private student laws that apply to federal laws with regards to BK. It's possible but extremely unlikely to get them included. You pretty much have to be living at poverty level with no chance of your situation ever improving in order to qualify. The same standard applies to both private and federal student loans.
