I need help.
I am in my first year of nursing school and I am obviously a novice to the profession. I am looking for information that maybe some of you can help with.
Is there a specialty of nursing that does not clean sheets, give baths, and perform similar things on patients? I do not see myself enjoying that line of work; instead, I long for the nursing where I patch up a bullet or stab wound in the trauma department for example. Is that a real expectation of trauma nursing?

I recently got a PCA job in a trauma unit. It is not realistic if one thinks that they can become a trauma nurse without experience in nursing in another area first. If by patch up you mean suture you might want to consider a career as an RN first assist (experience required) or PA. I think though that instead of hating the changing sheets and bathing, etc, if you look at it as opportunities to assess the patient and practice therapeutic communication, you'll get a lot more out of it than just thinking of it as stuff you really don't want to do.(for now)

I think if that is all you are looking for in nursing you will likely be disappointed.
