Stuck between two programs. Need help!!!

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

A little about myself

Well i have decided to go back to school to pursue a degree in nursing. When I re-enrolled back into school this past summer 2016, my GPA was a 2.8 :(.....My counselors, and co-workers all told me that I should consider another profession because I would not get into a nursing program because in the Philadelphia area, there is too much competition. Feeling down and out, I didn't listen to them and went on with my education in hopes of at least trying to get accepted into a program. Well, since i have been back to school, I have taken A&P 1-2, Micro, Nutrition, Statistics, and Public Speaking at a local community college. I have received an A in all of the classes and raised my GPA up to a 3.35, not too shabby.

I have applied for a BSN and ADN program took the Kaplan entrance exam, scored a 79, and I was accepted into both. Both schools from what I hear were highly competitive and i am just blessed to be accepted and I am just full of joy and very humbled. My problem is that I really don't know what program I should chose. Both of them have their pros and cons and I'm asking for you guys advice on what program you think i should chose.

First is the ADN program.

The pros

it is cheaper, I only have to take the nursing classes which are one (7) credit course per semester for 4 semesters. Highly respected ADN program. Total of two years to complete the program. I probably will have more time to work while going to school (I know its not recommended to work full time, but I believe I can do it because i don't have any kids, no major responsibilities and i'm only taking one course per semester).

The Cons

I have to pay out of pocket, no more financial aid offered. It will be around $2400 a semester including books/uniforms. I'm gonna have to do a rn-bsn program anyway. I will be in school at least 3-3.5 years total if i want to go for my BSN.

Now the BSN program

The Pros

I will be done with my BSN in 2.5 years (one stop shop), highly respected program, awarded a partial scholarship, waived about five classes that I would of had to take but now i don't, I will have all of the books for every class for free. Even the recommended but not necessary books. Staff seems like they will bend over backwards for me. It is almost around the same time frame for the ADN degree.

The Cons

The program is more expensive (will cost around 35k for whole program after scholarship). A really expensive program. Not much time to work. But still will be able to pay my priority bills.

Pretty much that sums it up. Either way, I know my future looks bright. I am a hard worker and I strongly believe that I will be successful in either program because I really want this....ALOT lol. I just wanted to know.... what you guys would chose? and why? Thanks for reading this.

Specializes in ER.

If you get into both, I would consider doing the ADN but plan on going for an BSN. College debt is something that you don't want to be under forever.
