Last week I was interview for a RN a Long Term Care Center. From what it sounds like from the recruiter, the RN manager is very interested in my application and may likely hire me. The online job application will close next Tuesday (5/22) where the recruiter will call me about the next step in being hired for the job.
I had a phone interview today with an acute care hospital regarding their resident positions. This is the job that I really want! The recruiter said that I will receive a call next Thurs or Fri (5/24-25) regarding whether i've been chosen for an on site interview. If I do get chosen, on site interviews will be held from May 29-30 (T W Th), and from there, candidates who are chosen will be notified by 6/1(Fri) or 6/4(Mon).
My question is, if the Long Term Care Center calls me next Tues asking when I can start, what should I say? I really want the resident position at the hospital, however I would not find out until the beginning of June if I got in. I wasn't sure if I should tell the Long Term recruiter I'm not available to start until after June 4th or that I'm currently in the process of interviewing with another job position. I need help! The worst situation for me is if I turn down the Long term care job and not end up getting the hospital residency. I have thought about accepting the Long Term Care job and quitting once the residency starts (6/18), however it doesn't seem very reasonable. I kind of stuck on a limb so any advice will be very helpful. Thank you and have a wonderful day!

THats a tough, but hopefully happy spot to be in , to have 2 choices. Probably the best thing to do if you are offered the LTC job is to ask them if you can have a certain amount of time to think about it...make an agreement that you will call by June 5th or 6th.
The only issue I see with this is that sometimes places get bogged down and call later than they promise. But if that happens, you can always call and say, "I am sorry to inquire, but I have another job offer. This residency is the position I am most interested in, so I am hoping to hear the decision soon." Most places understand that you may have other options and they will understand time limits. If you express that this opportunity is the one you want there should be no issues.

Most LTC facilities will let you work PRN. The ones I have been at only required me to work one weekend a month. The rest of the time I just called and asked them what hours they had when I wanted to work. You can switch to full time later if you don't get the hospital job. Good luck!
Thanks guys, I hope everything goes well. Ill try to see if they will allow me to give an answer until early June.
