Hi all! I have been a nurse for about 2 years with a BSN. I have tried everything from Neuro ICU and med surg to home health and hospice. My main struggles are with medication errors, time management, and organization. I am VERY discouraged right now and am seriously considering doing something else. I've never posted anything before and I feel as if I am at the end of my rope.

Hello, 1nurse-2007. Welcome to allnurses.com, the largest and most active nursing social network on the Web. You'll find our members to be very supportive.(Unless you need a gentle kick in the butt.. you'll probably get one. But only with the best intentions!)
What can you tell us about how your time management and organization are affecting the care you provide? Do you give yourself enough time to accomplish the task at hand, or are you trying to multi-task so you're not able to attend to what's right in front of you? Do you think this may contribute to the med errors? What type of med errors are we talking about? We're all our own worst critics. Please don't give up on nursing as a career. You've taken the first step to making things better. I just know you'll get great advice.

Well, don't give up. MAYBE you do not have enough education to be happy.
OPTIONS:
Get a masters in nursing, and specialize in something you are passionate about.
Find a cause you are passionate about, do it for free; until you can find a way to get paid.
Know you are not alone, I don't like Med/Surg. It's the only nursing I know; I've been doing it since I was a CNA dreaming of being a RN. Talking about my hang ups may not be healthy for you to hear. You are helping me by letting me type about them. So I am trying to get a job in the ED or ICU. I know the ED will be great! I volunteered as a Triage Nurse at the Free Clinic, and I loved it! Tomorrow the Director is going to return my call about an interview!
