I am an LPN with 1 year experience in a LTC setting. I work 2nd shift on a very diverse hall with a mixture of rehab and dementia residents, to say the least I have my hands full. I have 27 residents on my hall to provide medication and treatments to. Also I am in charge of keeping in contact with the doctor when needed /assessing/ pulling orders etc. I have been full time on that hall for a year and I have built relationships with my residents and their families and don't get me wrong I absolutely love working with my residents, I just feel so stressed out and overwhelmed all the time! I am constantly getting pulled in different directions, I feel like I never get anything done. I never get a break & I am always stuck there for and 2 + hours at the end of my shift just to complete my documentation. My hall is known as "the hard hall," the hall that no one ever wants to pick up on my days off. The full time dayshift nurse with 12 years of experience has the same problems. There is just not enough time in the shift to get everything done. Do all nurses feel this way? I have worked all of the other halls in my facility & I am always capable of getting all of my work done. I have always wanted to be a nurse & I know that it is a very stressful yet rewarding job, I just don't think it's healthy to be this stressed out all of the time. Am I wrong?!
