Stressed and Need Motivation

So long story short, I was just accepted to a BSN program. One of the required classes to start is Pathophysiology which is not a pre req so I was able to get accepted without it and take it this summer. When my major changed in the University system I lost the WUE grant and GEM award I was getting as an undeclaired major:( It said somewhere in the fine print that only non impacted majors can recieve the scholarships. I have no chance of covering the out of state tuition and daycare this fall so I'm not going to be able to go to this school.

I'm three weeks into the summer pathophysiology course which is online. No other program I have looked into requires this class, most of them integrate it into the nursing curiculum. I have been putting so much effort in this class and just barly have an A and I feel like giving up. My only chance of starting nursing school this fall is if I get to the top of a waitlist and that's just for an LPN program. It's too late to drop the class even though it's only the third week because it's a accelerated summer course. I'm so disappointed I can't start a BSN program this fall and the fact that I have to do this online course everyday just reminds me about it. At the same time I'm totally fascinated by the material and enjoying learning it but I can't just sit back and absorb the material, I'm just stressing about maintaining a 4.0 even though this is the only class I'm going to take at this university!

Thanks for listening to my vent!

Keep your head up and stick with it. A&P is one of the most important classes for your future/ if you understand how a system works then you have a great deal of insight into why it's not working and what the sequelae will be. I know there is pressure to get an A, but focus instead on really learning and understanding it; hopefully by learning and understanding it you will not only get a good grade but you will have a string foundation.

As for your loans, talk with the financial aid office about solutions, they may have some or at least a direction to point. There is also some evidence out there that the amount of personal sacrifice you experience in your education correlates with ease of entry into practice: this struggle may actually help you be a better nurse.

I have a 4.0 in all three A&P classes I took while working on pre-reqs and agree knowing it is so helpful for taking pathophysiology. If I did not have a good understanding of A&P I probably would not have an A right now in patho!

Even if I got loans and grants it would only pay out of state tuition, no fees, no supplies no daycare (600/month) or living expenses. The only way this BSN program could have worked out for me is if I the scholarships I got for tuition were still in place and I could use the rest of my financial aid for daycare and supplies.

I think going back and doing an affordable LPN program still counts as a struggle for me since I've put so much effort in to getting a 4.0 in prereqs for this BSN program that I'm not getting to go to.

I suppose getting a B once in my life won't kill me, especially since the material will be covered again as part of a associates degree program!
