Hi all,
I'm currently a SBU student majoring in Psychology. However, I recently decided I want to go to nursing school because I have found an interest in healthcare, and also feel that the job opportunities would be abundantly more fulfilling. Although I am a SBU student I am going to take my prereqs at Suffolk Community College because they have a much more flexible schedule for me with work (retail). I have figured out my gpa for my previous school and Stony Brook's (1 & 2 semesters) and I will have a 3.1. If I succeed in my prereq classes and receive no less than a 3.3 I will be in the 3.6-3.9 range just for my science classes. I am wondering if Stony Brook is going to consider my overall gpa for all college or focus on my science gpa in terms of the admission process. I also plan on volunteering at the hospital this summer to heighten my chances in getting in. I love Stony Brook and truly don't want to leave it.

Definitely apply. I graduated from the program and it's an excellent one, and you will become part of a highly sought after nursing alumni base after graduation. My undergrad GPA was a lower range 3.0 but my prereqs were 4.0 and I had volunteer experience too. Stony Brook considers the individual applicant and doesn't just look at grades. Good luck!
