Hello everyone!
I applied to Stony Brook’s PMHNP program 11/30. I haven’t heard anything back. Just wondering if anyone else has applied/gotten an interview.
Thanks!
Hi Eileen,
I also applied because of the cost. I am truly disappointed however, in a way I am glad because I am graduating on Friday with my DNP and I am also and FNP. I feel like it’s a blessing in disguise. I am tired of school but wanted to do my post masters in PMHNP to get the flexibility to work from home sometimes. However, I am not sure if I want to apply elsewhere for now. I don’t like the disappointment after going through the whole process. It’s torturing to my body especially after 13 years of schooling and finishing up my DNP this week.
Apply to other programs you will get into one.
Thank you for your support. I don’t blame you. I think I would tired of school myself after going for that long.
im going to shoot for Molloy or Adelphi. I think I’ll wind up getting into one of them.
I was thinking of Hunter but since I live in Long Iskans that’s a little far and I do t think I’d want to go into the city.
Oh well. It is what it is. Best of luck to you.

It would make sense that you would have the opportunity to advance. I have not received an interview and have about 10 years under my belt as a nurse. I've worked in crisis and currently manage an outpatient behavioral health program in primary care. What I know of Stonybrook is that it is VERY competitive. I've resolved to not giving up even if I'm denied this go-around. What that means is applying to other schools, taking some graduate classes non-matriculated in contribution of my GPA and academic advancement, and even applying again to Stonybrook at a later date if necessary. I'm sending my well-wishes to you and hope you get the opportunity to live your truth if this is what you want for yourself. Hang in there!
Thank you, I got the email today and no I wasn't accepted into the program, it hurts but I must go on and try again next time. Price is good, the other schools are so expensive. Stay happy on purpose ??
Hello!! I am starting the program in May and would love to get a head start if possible. Would anyone be willing to send me the first semester powerpoints? [email protected]

I applied to the PMHNP program at the end of November and interviewed in mid-January. My friend also applied and interviewed in December. When I interviewed they said that we would hear back in mid-March and that orientation will be in April.
It's so nerve wracking. Mid-March can't get here soon enough!
Hi there, I know this is an old post but I was wondering if you can share as to what they ask during the interview? I applied but haven’t heard back yet for interview date. Freaking out over here. Any help regarding what kinds of essay after the interview or Interview in general would be much appreciated. Thank you. ?
Hi there!
I interviewed last February but didn't get in. I am now enrolled in Adelphi's PMHNP program which was way easier to get into.
From what I remember these are the questions for the interview:
1. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
2. When was a time you had a difficult patient and things didn't go your way?
3. Describe what the role of a NP is.
4. What motivates you to become an NP?
5. What 2 qualities do you feel like are important for a manager?
I believe the essay question was:
What uniqueness would you contribute to the NP role and why should we accept you at Stonybrook?
They will send you an email after the interview and you have about 30 minutes to complete it. It doesn't have to be that long. I think it's more in the form of a question and they want the answer to be under 100 words.
Best of luck to you.

@Eileen Psych RN Thank you. You've no idea how at ease It put me just to get a slight idea of what they are seeking from the interview process. Thank you.
Hey everyone! I see this forum has woken up a bit in the last few weeks. I'm at Upstate Medical University full time doing my PMHNP. I absolutely love it! I originally planned my graduate track up Upstate and am so glad I got in. I wish you all the best of luck! Don't get discouraged if you apply to one school and don't get in. Keep your options open and keep trying if it's what you really want!

@EwallNRS Hi there,
So glad to hear from you and to know that you are loving your program. I applied for Summer 2022 StonyBrook PMHNP program. I am freaking out over here. I only applied to one school. Do you remember anything from the interview questions and what essay questions after the interview did they ask? Anything will be of immense help. Thank you

I think it’s weird none of us got in also. My co-worker was accepted but so far she’s the only one I know of.
im going to start looking into other schools. I applied to Stony Brook due to the lower cost but I guess that’s what makes it so competitive.
Good luck to all.
