Stony Brook Hospital

Published

Hi All,

I will be moving to Stony Brook in a few months since my husband will be going to school there. I will have my RN by then and would like to find a job in a local hosptial, prefferably the University hospital. Can anyone comment on the salaries, benefits and working conditions in that hospital? I havent been able to find information on this site or elsewhere.

Great retirement benefits, great medical/dental and vision benefits for you and your family. Dont know much about the salaries since I have not worked at any other hospital and have no point of comparison. All I know is I get enough for me and my family to live on here in Long Island. The Union for RNs are PEF 225. YOu also have to realize that unlike corporations, Stony Brook is a State Facility - so salary has to go though Albany first. And a teaching one at that. YOu have interns, residents and attendings. YOu also have trainee nurses and orientees.

I'm not in management or recruitment, I'm just a grunt in the trenches.

If you have more questions just PM me.

Ok so your PM box is full so I will reply on the thread but you can reply via PM if you wish. Does it being a teaching facility make it better or worse? What is the starting salary for RN's with a BSN? Are there certain departments to stay away from ? Is there four week orientation enough? I am a bit worried about that.
