Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2015

U.S.A. New York

Published

It's almost september, which means people are starting to get their applications for nursing together real soon. I'm currently in the 1-yr nursing program here at Stony Brook. A previous alum started the 2014 thread for us, so I figured I do the same. Feel free to ask questions or message me with them. Good luck to everyone applying! :)

I spoke to someeone in admissions who told me that unofficial transcripts need to be uploaded to your application and only official transcripts need to be submitted when you are admitted.

no benefit to submitting it early other than the fact that you get it out of the way earlier. i think i remember mailing in my official transcript to stonybrook last fall, but perhaps i remembered wrong or they changed the policy for this year. and GoVeg is right: you can complete your pre-reqs next spring since the fall sem is already about halfway done (eeks, already?!!) but if you're unsure about an answer to a question, calling or emailing Karen would be a safe bet. she's pretty good with emailing back within a reasonable amount of time!

For some reason I cant find on the website, where it talks about what the essay needs to be about. Or am I just confusing SB with other schools?

Hi Chrissy - the essay topic is in the online application, but I don't think it's on the SBU website.

Does stony brook have interviews?

ive been hearing that SBU is doing interviews, which is something they just started doing for this year's entering class apparently. so unfortunately, we cant provide you guys with much help or input on that. but look at it as an opportunity to shine and be more than just a name on a piece of paper :D!

Hi everyone! Some of the current students and alumni will know me from prior Stony Brook threads. I graduated from the ABSN almost 2 years ago and am currently working as an RN. I have followed Stony Brook threads on here since 2009 (!!!!) :o ... Many of you have probably seen my allnurses posts for the other classes, including my own, and I just want to say how proud I have been to see some applicants become students and come on here and continue mentoring as I used to do. Current students posting here are doing a fantastic job of guiding you, so do listen to what they say.

What I WILL speak about is my experience after graduation from the ABSN. I can tell you this much: Stony Brook nursing graduates are well-renowned and known for being well-prepared for the NCLEX and entry-level nursing (we are after all #2 in NCLEX pass rate in New York State behind Columbia). YES, it is hard to get a job out there right now as a new grad, just as it was when I graduated over a year ago. However, my piece of advice is to impress EVERYONE you come across in clinical and in school because to get a job nowadays it comes down to networking. Leave a bad rap somewhere and it will follow you, but likewise if you leave a good one fortunately. I am very proud to have accepted the admission offer to Stony Brook over another nursing school out of state, and I feel like I got a very good education. Your first year as a nurse is going to be a WHOLE other learning experience, and it is impossible to teach all that in a one-year program. But your clinical experiences will be awesome, and you will learn so much and you will be ready even if you dont think you are. The real world is different from clinical at times, especially when you are on your own and working with your own patients, but know that in the long run you were properly educated and prepared.

Anyway, good luck with your applications! :) GO SEAWOLVES! LOL! :D

Hi everyone. I just found this board. I wish I found it earlier because past threads are filled with great and helpful information.

This is the first year I have applied to the accelerated program. I wish I found it earlier because it seems like an incredible program.

I submitted my application at the end of August and I have just received a response asking for an interview. The interview is scheduled for next week and I am so nervous. I know this is the first year that Stony Brook is including an interview in the application process, but does anyone have advice or recommendations to share? The little information that I know is that it is a group interview and there is also a sample writing part.

Thanks in advance and good luck to everyone.

Hi All,

I'm in the middle of completing my app for the accelerated program and I cannot find any info re: the personal statement anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find it/submit it on the online app?

Thanks!

The essay prompt is at the bottom of the page called "Undergraduate and BS/MS Programs Section." Not exactly hard to miss!!

Hey Paco! Thanks for posting - I've loved reading all your posts and info on the past year threads. :) Are you still working at SBUH? Anyway, hopefully I'll be walking in your footsteps in future SB threads, haha!

ahh looks like my computer is selectively blocking certain "pop ups" thanks!
