I am not in the program or even on the list yet, but i was wondering once you are in the program, do you start clinicals right away? What do they have you do? Is it mostly observing or are you tending to patients?

Hi FutureRN! Im not at Meramac but I can tell you a little bit about what we did at Forest Park.At the start of the first semester of we stayed on campus for "clinicals". On these days we learned basic patient care skills. Real clinicals for us began about 4 weeks into the semester. Its not observing at all! You will be assigned a patient to take of for the day and you will be allowed to perform any nursing skills that youve been tested over.
Wow! That is so cool! It kind of scares me though...haha. I can't believe they let you take care of a patient right away, but I guess you should know what the heck you're doing. If you don't mind me asking, how long did you have to wait on the list? I have one class left before I can apply. Thank you for getting back to me!
I was thinking about getting a laptop for school, would it be beneficial to have one in nursing school?
I only waited 1 calendar year. Initally when applied I was number 190 something. But Ive heard that there are nearly 300 ppl on the list at some campuses. That may or may not be true. The list will move faster than you think. As far as a laptop, that will help, but you could definitely make it without one. I typed all my assigments, but all of our professors allowed them to be handwritten.Hope this helps.

Hi,
As a graduate of Meramec's nursing program Dec.2010! Everything that TAYBABYNURSE has mentioned is the same as what we did Meramec. I remembering.starting clinicals the first semester.around Feb 5th.so it comes up.quick. and the waiting list is not.bad at all. They fly through the list.bc people decide not.to.go.for.various reasons. I was only on the list for a year. I also wouldn't buy a laptop. I never had to type anything that I recall. Save ur money for something else like books bc the books r going to be expensive.
If you have anymore.questions about Meramec. Id be happy to.answer them.

I am in hte program at FP and I bought a laptop for the program. To be honest though I haven't really needed it. You will need to print things off blackboard but thats abotu it. We just started clinicals last week aqnd its not too bad. I was really nervous at first but we are doing simple things right now like vitals and baths. Not only do you test out in lab for these skills but your clinical instructor tests you out again to make sure you knowwhat you are doing! We were actually told last week that you only have labfor the first two semesters so that means you will learn all skills you need to know in 2 semesters. We will be up to cathaters by the end of our first semester.

Hi was just wondering is meramec a good school? How are the teachers? I feel like FP is the Stlcc ppl go to on here. Also, can you record lectures? I just passed my dosage test and was going to apply to all three schools, however, Flo pass rate is odd.... last thing how long did you wait on the list?! Thanks.

Hi Ashley,
Personally, Forest Park Meramec, and Flo Valley all have respectable programs. However, FLO is known for being more of a ballbuster nursing program. FLO's NCLEX pass rate is like 98% but that is also because they start with 60 in a class and they usually only graduate with 20 or so left. I've taken classes at all 3 schools and all my teachers allowed me to record them. I'm currently 340s at Meramec, 310s at Forest Park, but I'm
