I am starting nursing school in Aug. What type of stethoscope is good to buy? I work at a vet clinic and we use the Litman (sp?) cardiac 3. I love it and am used to it, but it is a bit pricey. Is there a good website to buy from? Thanks for the help!:loveya:

Thanks for the help!:loveya:If you want a Littman but don't want to dish out all of the $$$ for your own cardiac 3, they have other more affordable Littmans on the market. Check out here: http://www.allheart.com/littmannscopes.html They have awesome prices and they seem to be a lot cheaper there than anywhere else! HTH! :)
Ang_RN 191 Posts Specializes in Pediatrics. Jun 26, 2008 The descriptions aren't saying if they are a dual head or not. I can buy one that looks like a dual head, but I don't want to go to class with the wrong one. I really don't have alot of extra money to blow on ones they won't accept.I am looking at this one.. Any opinions about this particular one?http://www.allheart.com/2200-16.html

I got my cardio III from Steeles because Allheart only engraves the tubing. This is a link to classic II SE.http://www.steeles.com/catalog/3mclassII.html

(in ocean blue!) from http://www.reddingmedical.com which was cheaper than allheart! the littman classic ii s.e. generally runs for $84.95 (at least in all of the medical supply stores i have been to! and they don't give student discounts on those scopes!!!). allheart has them for $63.98 which is nice, but then you add sales tax + $11-something in shipping and it ends up being around $81. now if you compared that to buying the same scope in the store, you do save probably close to $10 (with tax and everything, depending on your area...the area i was in has 7-something % sales tax!!!! ) so i did some searching for a better price and reddingmedical's was better. they charge $63.99 for the scope + $9.95 s&h and no tax, so my scope ended being $73.95. i know that people have also complained that allheart is somewhat "slow" with shipping. reddingmedical is only open monday through friday so any weekend orders are shipped on the next business day. i placed my order on friday (after 5pm, and they were closed), the scope shipped out yesterday and it is scheduled to be here tomorrow (they e-mailed me a tracking code and everything). so if you're looking to save some $$$, i would try ordering your littman classic ii s.e. from reddingmedical

myrose 99 Posts Specializes in NICU. Jul 11, 2008 Ok, I am about to buy my stethoscope. I am torn between the classic II that I think most nursing students get and the cardiac III. I want the cardiac III because the animal hospital I work at uses them and I am used to them. Do I really need one that nice for school?

I currently use the single head cardiology scope- it's better for us old people with diminished hearing, but they make a nice dual head model that should be fine for school at 1/3 the cost of a Littmann. KILA labs market through EBAY or directly at thier webpage. I used the Littmann dual head cardiology scope for a couple of years and was never as happy with it as I am my KILA.
