I need to purchase a good quality steth. The problem is, I do not know anything about them. I need one that I can use for adults and Peds. Are the kind with two heads what I need or will one with only one head work. I don't have a clue what high and low frequency options are either. Someone please explain stethoscopes to me.

I kinda want to buy a littman but I have no idea what kind to get. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

No I have not ever met Lorisha although I'm sure we have passed each other on campus. I have no idea about the shoe size but that seems about right. My feet are wide so I have a hard time finding shoes that don't kill my feet. I went to the uniform store today just to look around and tried out some of the steths there too but they were about $20.00 higher than at school and online. I wish that we didn't have to wear the smocks. Yuck! Not that the uniform is much better.

I'm going to go to Leigh so that I can kill two birds with one stone. Don't worry about sounding prissy, I just highlighted my hair so my picture will look good. LOL!

I know that's right!!! Did you know that you get to wear regular clothes to school? It doesn't hurt to try to look good. My aunt always told me to always try to look your best b/c you will never know who you will meet(it kinda goes along with the saying always wear clean underwear b/c you don't know when you will have an accident)

Do you have any friends yet so that you can start a study group? I am going to be on point in nursing school, no messing around over here!

R ya'll uniforms white too, i know that I need to invest in bleach and stain remover. What if we get blood on it, that would probably stay on it forever! My smock make me look like I am drowing in it since I'm short and skinny. They should carry them in more sizes other than regular and oversize.

Ya ours are white too. I think its the same uniform. White polo, white scrub pants and a white lab coat. And that ugly smock. If we have a lab coat why do we need a smock too.

The Littmann SE II has been great for me... I just got one online from acornproduct.com. and picked up some great scrubs there too. My new dog chewed on my last one. They are good quality, but not puppie proof by the way.:icon_hug:

I don't have a dog but I do have 3 cats, one that likes to chew. I'll be sure to keep her away from it.

But really- what is the deal with the dual head thing? If I buy a Litmann...any Litmann..can I use it for Peds too?

Thanks!

My nursing school also recommended a cheepie.. I have a hard time hearing and bought a littman. I bought the dual head. The reason for the dual head is the small bell is for peds, and higher frequency, and large for adult. I believe though with Littman's some anyways. That you can use only 1 bell and get the same response only by the different type of pressure applied. For nursing school dual head is a must. and just one that you can hear out of for blood pressures, lung sounds basic heart sounds, and to check bruits with. Good Luck and I hope that this helped you...

I ordered one through my school for the same price.(Princess74 and I will be attending the same school except she's LPN and I am RN) I tried the other ones and they either hurt my ears or I couldn't hear a thing. A lady that already goes to the school said that most of the students have them since the cost is in the middle.

Princess74- when u go to registration day they will have all the stuff you need and you can practice with them. The prices doesn't seem outrages.

Thanks - that's good to know! :)
