Stethoscope Color in the Military?

Published

Hello!

So I am currently a Medical Technician in the Air National Guard and will be starting Nursing School in the Fall. I am wanting to commission as a nurse when I get my BSN and possibly go active duty (I still have a couple of years so I will decide as the time gets closer) but I'm wondering, do you have to have a specific color stethoscope in the military? I'm looking at stethoscopes currently and I really love the Caribbean with Rainbow Finish but I'm afraid that it will be out of regs or deemed unprofessional once I commission and start to use it. I don't want to waste money on a stethoscope I won't be able to use as I go through my Air Force career. :/

Also, if I commission and decide to stay guard, do any civilian hospitals have any regulations on stethoscope color or are they pretty lax with nurses' stethoscope colors?

Thank you for the help!

Civilian hospitals don't generally specify stethescope color. In fact, the more flamboyant the less likely it is to go walkabout without you -- and the more likely you'll get it back if it does. I'm not sure about military regs -- but I hope they're not too strict.

I had a red stethoscope while on Active Duty in the Air Force. No one cared. Good luck with school!

Thank you both! :)
