What's the population the unit usually sees? Some step down units are specialized (i.e. Telemetry), so pick a topic that's relevant to your population group. I worked a cardiac progressive care unit during school, and I had a similar project and I formulated my pico question to match what I was seeing a lot of: in patients with heart failure does metoprolol or carvedilol provide longer life expectancy?

I'm really not even sure. I don't work there. I know they have telemetry, but I don't know what's typical for them.

Hello all,
I am looking to see if anyone has any suggestions on a PICOT topic for my BSN capstone project. I am an RN with 5 years experience and will be starting my BSN capstone course Nov 4th. The course lasts 10 weeks. I am going to be working with a preceptor at my local hospital on a step down unit. I had originally formulated a PICOT involving depression treatment comparing conventional methods such as cognitive behavioral therapy and antidepressants vs natural methods such as homeopathy and exercise over a period of 3 months, but since my area has very limited places that actually do homeopathy I have decided I need to pick another topic. I am really at a loss on what to choose. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I don't mean to make this come across as homework help, but I'm really not sure what issues are common in the step down units. I have worked in long term acute care, so I suppose that is close, but before I go and choose something that seems unattainable, I'd like to get some perspectives. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
