  1. I just graduated from GGC Nursing and highly highly recommend it. As far as your personal situation, you need to consider why you would be taking an ADN over a BSN. for me, when I considered it, it was because I wanted to get into the hospital and working faster, but it was almost the same length of time to get the ADN as the BSN once I took pre-reqs into account. Also, think about how much additional you might pay when you go to bridge your RN to BSN, because most hospitals in GA are wanting BSNs more and more. If you are able to do the BSN, why wouldn't you go ahead and get it done? I chose GGC initially because it was less expensive and it was close. Now, I tell everyone to choose GGC because the school and faculty are amazing. They are not admitting students just to weed them out, they're not the kind of program to let you in and then makes you fend for yourself. The professors get to know you and care for each of their students. The school is small but mighty, they have lots of connections around Atlanta. I tell people all the time that if I hadn't gotten in the first time, and I know what I know now, I'd have waited a long time to go to GGC. Almost everyone I graduated with had a job before graduation, and many classes before me were the same. We also have a fantastic NCLEX pass rate as well.
  2. It's whatever you prefer! I and many classmates have a Littman classic III, or the regular Littman classics. the MDF's are fine also. It's up to you and your budget really, but definitely don't do the cheapo $15 ones.
  3. The nursing "kit" that you are given includes the supplies you will use in class to complete skills. Dressing change stuff, masks and gowns for PPE stuff, etc. The kit includes stuff for class, not things you'll use in clinical. You need to get your own stethoscope, pen light, etc. The scrubs are $45/top and the pants from the company are like, $20? I recommend 2 tops. You can get your own scrub pants as long as they're hunter green. And the shoes can have a little bit of non-white, but it needs to be either black, blue or silver, and only a little bit. If they're brightly colored you won't get away with them.
  4. Letters are usually out sometime around this week, and they come via email first. But, with the COVID craziness, I wouldn't be surprised if you have to wait a little bit longer. Don't panic if you don't get a letter yet! Good luck yall! If you have questions about the program please feel free to reach out, I'm a current GGC nursing student.
  5. Thanks, TitilolaP. I got an email invite for the 24th but I already have another offer at a different hospital, and wasn't sure if I would stick with that or try for Grady. That information is good to know, and pretty much makes my decision for me. Thanks!
  6. Does anyone know the base pay and differentials for Grady?
  7. I would do everything you can to bump up that teas! From what I’ve heard, the average acceptance is usually at least 84. People get in with lower, but most of the people I have talked to who got at least 84 or above definitely get in. That is the absolute most important part of the application. They use different ATI tests to predict success on the NCLEX during nursing school, so the higher you score before nursing school, the better chance you’ll pass the NCLEX after graduation.
  8. As far as your fall semester, be very careful. Many people are going to say you're crazy to take AP2 and Micro together. I personally didn't have any issues with it, but I know many did. However, adding Chem2 to the mix is going to give you an extra struggle. It's not necessarily the material or content that will make you struggle, it will be the time commitment to truly learn the material. Most if not all of the micro classes are flipped classroom, and many of the AP2 classes are as well, and adding in Chem 2 will be a nice time suck. And of all the material you'll need for nursing/TEAS, micro and AP2 are the absolute most important and come back every single day in nursing classes. So it's really important that you're not just learning for the tests in those classes. I'm going to PM you. I go to GGC right now and maybe I can help you out if we talk more.
  9. My husband and I are currently in nursing school at the same school, but I’m one semester ahead of him. We are also parents to two young children, and it does get a bit hectic but we really are loving it. As far as study partners, it’s very nice and really helpful to bounce things off of each other. Even though I’m ahead of him and he hasn’t taken the classes I’m taking, he can still help me and we can think critically together and see each other’s thought processes. That being said, we have very different learning styles so although I can give him an answer if he has a question, he still learns better with his study mates in his own class. As far as working, it’s been good and bad. We are both doing extern programs this summer. I am on a med surg unit and he is in the ICU. I have struggled with this, because while he is loving the icu, he still isn’t sure what kind of nursing he would like to do, while I have known since the beginning I want to do trauma/critical care and eventually get to flight nursing. So having the competition for jobs be with your spouse is kind of crappy, but it’s also nice to have the connections and networking that comes with it. So if you and your husband are both hard workers, it can pay off.
  10. Just commenting to remind you of the GGBANS meeting tomorrow!! 1215 in the nursing skill lab, H 2231! It's free and open to prenursing also! Not just current nursing students!
  11. Lilyhan, I sent you a pm about your question. I'm also a GGC student and I know I was very stressed before I started too!
  12. Last semester they sent some denial letters out the same week they sent out acceptance letters. I had a friend who got neither when I had gotten my acceptance and others had received denials, and when she called to check, they told her she would hear something in 3 weeks or so. The time line they told her was after the deadline I had to pay to hold my spot, so we assumed that the reason she hadn't received acceptance or denial was because she had made the "wait list" for the spots that people may end up declining. I don't think GGC has an official wait list, but that's what we assumed. She eventually received a denial about 3 weeks later. Good luck yhoko, I know it's nerve wracking!
  13. Congratulations!!! You earned it! It's such a relief to see that email!! :)
  14. Hope you guys post when you hear a decision! Good luck!!
