a state school vs. a for profit school???

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi I am having a hard time deciding whether I should choose a private for-profit school or a state university for my bachelor's degree.

My cumulative GPA is over 3.9 and I have 85% on both HESI and TEAS, which should be enough for both schools...

A state university I am talking here has a really good honors program and is fairly reputable. It's ranked in 21 in the nation but the tuition is crazy.. about $70,000 in total. No scholarships. Nothing. (because I am an international student.)

A private for-profit school is both regionally and nationally accredited and can give me over $3000 for scholarship each semester. Tuition will be less than $30,000 until graduation. It is well-known in this area.

I am planning on applying to a graduate school right after I graduate from university. Graduate school should be internationally reputable since I might be going back to my country to work after master's or doctor's degree. so.. I'm wondering if graduating from a private for-profit school can affect me when I am applying for a graduate degree, or applying for a job.

Wow the state university's tuition is crazy high. I would go with the private since you will be completing your masters afterwards. The only big concern is making sure your credits will transfer. Good luck on what ever route you choose. I do think going into extreme debt for school is not a good choice right now. In our area nursing positions can be scarce.

Are those the only two colleges in existence?

No community colleges? No less expensive universities?

What about private not for profit colleges? The tuition seems expensive but they are usually extremely generous with school based scholarships.

Graduating from one of those schools can impact jobs and future schooling.

I also didn't go to a state university because it ended up being more expensive that the private university. I would look into private universities and community college. Many private universities are much smaller than state schools so they give generous aid. My state school only gave me a few thousand while private unis gave me enough to have 90% of the cost paid off.

For profit schools generally have a bad reputation and low nclex pass rates. Many employers may not hire you if you come from for profit schools because they have a reputation of not preparing their students enough.
