State requirements on flu shots

Published

Hello out there fellow nurses. I'm not posting this to start a huge debate on flu shots, Heaven knows we have enough of those! I'm considering relocating somewhere warmer and I don't want to be mandated to get a flu shot (or have to wear a mask, if possible). I was hoping folks out there (particularly in the south or west) would kindly inform me of what is going on about flu shots in your state. You would be amazed at how difficult it is to find that info out. I'm interested to know if you are being mandated, if you have to wear a mask if you don't get the shot, if mandate is coming down the pike.... Any info would be very appreciated as it will weigh a lot in my decision about where to relocate. I'm particularly interested in TN, NC, SC, TX, AZ, VA. But would like to know about any states. Thank you all so much.

PS, incase anyone is wondering, I'm in NY and my state requires a mask in all areas of health care throughout the state if you don't get the shot. I wear it at all times in the hospital, even when getting my food in the cafeteria.

You're seriously considering picking what state you move to based on flu shots? Don't you think there's more important issues? Like educational systems, job market, taxes, governmental politics, locations of family and friends, etc, etc?

At least you get to wear a mask. Some places don't even let you do that.

And the rule can change any time, it isn't like they vote it in for a term. We have to get one or be fired.

All of the things you stated are certainly being considered above the flu shot mandates, I just wondered if some states may be more laid back than others.

Working in VA and having lived in SC - both still have problems with the flu and seem to be following the national trends of requiring flu shots. Not every job, but most hospitals and urgent care centers are requiring it.
