New Hampshire Board of NursingLicensed Nursing Assistant Training/Testing Reimbursement by the Medicaid Program

If you are a Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) you may be eligible for reimbursement of your training and testing costs. Listed below are the requirements that must be met in order for you to receive this reimbursement. The complete rules and forms may be obtained through your employing nursing facility or instructor.

  • The training/competency testing must be approved by the N.H. Board of Nursing.
  • You must have become employed by a nursing facility (nursing home) that is licensed by the N.H. Department of Health and Human Services no later than 12 months after you have successfully completed the training/testing.
  • An application must be completely filled out, including your full address, by yourself and by the nursing facility that hired you, and forwarded to the N.H. Board of Nursing. Please note that the address printed on the form for the Board of Nursing is incorrect and that the forms must be mailed to N.H. Board of Nursing at 21 S. Fruit St., Concord, N.H. 03301. Applications are available through nursing facilities and have the directions printed on them.
  • Your hire date by the facility (nursing home) must be after the completion date of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program. Training done by the employing facility for their employees is not eligible for this reimbursement.
    You must have paid for the training/testing out of your own personal funds. Payments made by third parties (i.e.: when someone else pays for your training) are not eligible for reimbursement.
  • All related receipts must be attached to your application.
    These receipts must have the training/testing facility's name and address imprinted on them. The receipts must show the date of transaction, what the receipt was for, the amount paid, and the method of payment. Credit card receipts are not acceptable. A receipt from your Program showing full payment has been received must be attached to your reimbursement application. Photocopies of cancelled checks are permissible if both sides of the check are copied and attached.

How long will it take for me to receive the reimbursement check?

  • The reimbursement request must be processed by the nursing facility and then sent to the Board of Nursing. Then it is sent to Department of Health and Human Services for review and processing. The reimbursement check is issued 4 - 6 weeks after received by DHHS.

Does an LNA who is employed by a home health agency, residential care home, assisted living facility, hospice facility or hospital qualify for training/testing reimbursement?

  • No. The LNA must have become employed by a nursing facility that is licensed by DHHS no later than 12 months after successfully completed the training/testing.

How long does the LNA have to be employed by the nursing facility (nursing home) to qualify to apply for reimbursement?

  • The regulation does not require a specific period of employment. Therefore, the LNA may initiate the request for reimbursement as soon as he/she is employed by a nursing facility.
