Hi all!
I just had question regarding managing orientation and training between two different hospitals. I think it is likely that I will be offered a part time position at one hospital, and a casual position at another, both within around the same time. Should I be offered both positions, would it be possible for me to accept both? Will it be doable to attend training and orientation for both in the beginning? I am a new graduate, so I am unfamiliar with how long training usually is and how they will schedule me in for the training (like can I chose which days to come in? or are the days set by the institution?). And then when working, i'm under the assumption that I can simply schedule my casual shifts around my part time ones? Also, do you think I should inform the employers about one another? Or is this something I should keep to myself?
Thanks in advance everyone.

It's doable. I was offered a job (part-time) and then a week later I was offered my dream job (full-time). I didn't want to quit the one I was offered first ( I live within walking distance), so I stayed. I self schedule for the first job so it works for me.
The most important thing is you need to know the dates for your orientations. It worked out for me because the second jobs orientation didn't start until I had already completed orientation for the first.
Good luck.

Do you think it would be appropriate to ask the employers if they know what their orientation dates are before I accept a job offer? For example, if they call with an offer can I say something like,"Do you happen to know when the orientation and training dates are?" if they say yes or no to then say "Sure, may I get back to you later today or tomorrow with my final answer?"
I do not know what the proper mannerisms are in this type of a situation.

Absolutely fine to ask. Be honest with them about working a second job. Really, with per diem or part time nursing positions, managers cannot realistically expect people to only have one job. I interviewed for a position recently, per diem, and they really appreciated that I was upfront that I was looking at a second per diem position. They were going to hire me, but the recruiter said I needed more experience (shocker). It shows that you communicate, even when it's not "ideal" information, and that you're upfront and honest.
There's a good chance I'll be starting two similar but very different jobs about the same time (freestanding birth center RN job and new grad LDRP hospital job), so could be interesting, but it's doable. Communication is key.

It is definitely doable. I worked as an aide for a subacute LTC while I was in school... They asked me if I would accept a position before I even graduated. They offered per diem and I couldn't say no because with how the economy is, per diem is better than no job. Then when I passed boards I was offered a part time job. I trained at the part time job first and my manager for my old job would let me train on my days off for the per diem position. And now I've recently been promoted to full time instead of part time but I'm still able to do a day or two of per diem work for the other job. You just need to communicate with management and make sure that you keep yourself organized. I have a calendar for each day I'm working and where. I also have all my paperwork organized separately for the two places.
