Ok, so I am starting school again 10 years after high school. I have always wanted to go into the medical field and am now decided on nursing. I am nervous, excited and impatient all at the same time. I thought this site would be a great extra support system when my husband and son just don't understand. c: I am looking forward to taking this life changing journey with you all and can't wait to get started!

I haven't been out of school that long, and my husband even suggested nursing, and since he suggested it I can't get it off my mind (I am wondering if that is because I have longed to try to be a nurse but was scared during my four years of undergrad study I just graduated from, or because I love him, and if he believes in my ability to do this, then I should too, or what else, I don't know maybe both). So I am in school pursuing undergraduate coursework for audiology (actually haven't started my first semester yet, so I have a couple months to decide), and I'm looking at this, and going "Is this what I want to do?" Because now I have looked at a million different options and want to pursue a career in medicine as one of the core professions (what I believe is nursing and being a physician). Nursing for me is the quickest way to do that. Even though I will be 27 or 28 by the time I end graduate with a BSN, and then what next? I will probably work and save money for medical school or go for physician studies, and a masters of public health. It is all up to me though.
I guess through my long rant what I am trying to say is pursue your dream. Pursue it to its fullest. Don't be afraid. I enjoyed my undergraduate degree in Political Science, and will find it quite useful in my work as a Public Health professional, which is where I want to end up quite honestly. I want my first degree not to go to waste. So it won't. Plenty of work in the CDC, Department of Veteran Affairs, and the Health and Human Services department of the federal government.
I feel like I'm starting from scratch though, I guess that is what I am really saying. Hope this rant isn't too annoying to read. Good luck to us starting from scratch. Whatever your age.
Thank you for your confidence cheers and good luck to you all too! and scurbo, everyone has a story and I appreciate you sharing yours c:

Babee, high school was 12 years ago for me and I wouldn't have imagined I'd be going into nursing. Funny how things work out.
I wish you lots of luck! It'll be a tough journey and your family may not understand, but just stay focused and positive. It will happen for you if you persevere. But I do hope your family comes around because you will need their help and support on the low days. :)

I graduated high school 17 years ago. Got a bachelors degree in business in 2009. This past January after being unemployed for a full year I decided that I never should have allowed myself to be talked out of going to nursing school back when I was 18. I looked into nursing schools in my area and realized I needed to take some prereqs. The local college has an ADN program and there were several BSN programs in the area as well. Money was an issue so I decided to put all my eggs in one basket and try to get into the local college. I took Chem and AP1 during the spring semester and planned to apply to the part time ADN program that would start in Jan 2013. Lucky for me, the full time deadline to apply was extended and my prereq classes ended just 7 days before the new deadline so I applied. Just got accepted into nursing school for the fall.
I have found that now that I am older, I take school more seriously than I would have 17 years ago. I get more out of it. Since I am more serious about it my friends and family are more supportive.
Good luck to you as you start your journey!

Congratulations! You'll love this site. Everyone is so caring and informative. This is the most supportive group I've ever been a part of. I admire those who go back to school while having jobs and/or families as well. I wish you the best on your journey! Good luck :)
