Starting Pay for Bilox/Gulfport area

U.S.A. Mississippi

Does anyone know the starting pay for the hospitals around here on the coast? I heard that singing river has pretty good pay but I haven't heard anything about memorial, biloxi regional or the va center.

Thanks for your replies

Hey I work in Gulfport. I do mostly agency and PRN work. The agency I work for pays 27-32 an hour. Most hospitals start at like 17.90 base pay but you get diffs for everything. 50 cents for BSN, 60 for each additional certification and 3-5 dollars shift diff. You are looking at about 21 and some change for day shift for a new grad. Hope it helps! Andrea

I work at Memorial. Starting pay for a registered nurse (new grad) when I graduated in May 2005 was $17.50. The hospital recently gave raises across the board for all staff. I now make 18.75hr. Evening diff (3-7p) is 2.00hr and night diff (11p-7a) is 4.00hr. If you work float pool, it's 40% on top of base pay. If you decline benefits, I think it's 20% on top of base pay. And if you work weekend special, it's 25% on top of base pay. Memorial is a great place to work. When I was a student, we were always made to feel welcome there (more so than at other hospitals!). ;)

what is PRN work?

what is PRN work?

Hello Mississippi Nurses,

I am starting an ADN program in Boston this fall - one of my goals is to work on the glorious gulf coast (preferably Biloxi/Gulfport area) after I get some experience. Is there a demand in this area for agency/travel nurses?

I'm just a pee on cna at the hospital in biloxi and the nurses i work with are very unhappy b/c they are starting the new grads out with higher pay/no experiance and they have been there for many years and don't make that much. the difference between biloxi regional and memorial in g-port is biloxi is a for profit hma hospital and they are real tight wads about paying there employees. the nursing to PT ration on 5 tele and 6 med/surg floor is suppose to 7:1 but when some one calls in they don't have a back up plan(xtra help) and they have taking 8,9 and even 10 pts a piece. which is a risk to their lic and patient safety but as long as biloxi has empty beds $$$$ the top dogs dont really care. i also teched at memorial and they staff way better and if they don't have the staff they don't take the risk unlike biloxi reg. and they give quarterly raises they are all around a much better hospital.
