Starting at Morgan Stanley Childrens - where to live?!?!

Hello all,

I am starting at Morgan Stanley Childrens hospital next month. I heard it's not in a very safe area, and I wanted to live in manhattan. Is this a do-able commute? If so, what neighborhood is the best to live in order to catch the A train? Please let me know if you have any advice! thanks!

Are you speaking of MSCH that is part of NewYork-Presbyterian-Columbia? If so I'd suggest you ask the mods to move your query over the New York nurses forum or post another query there so those who work and or are familiar with the place can answer.

The area around Columbia University/NYP is Morningside Heights and is lovely. Given the college and hospital having a presence in the area there is decent police coverage and IIRC both the hospital and university have their own security.

Being as that may it's still an urban area of NYC with *some* pretty tough spots surrounding (Harlem, Inwood, etc). Just use common sense and keep mindful of your surroundings and you should be fine. Nurses of all ages, races, genders and creeds move about the area all hours of the day and night and as a NYC resident one only hears of the occasional problem.
