Starting clinicals...

Published

At my school for the first 7 weeks, we don't have clinicals. We just are in the lab at school learning skills and whatnot. We get checked off every week for each skill(s) and then take a test at the end (you can take it once more if you fail) and then if you fail again, you're out of the program...yikes! Anyway, if you pass you move onto clinicals. Does anyone elses school do this or do you jump right into clinicals?

My school does something similar - we have 10-week quarters, and the first 7 weeks of "clinical" in the first quarter is really just more time spent in lab practicing skills. We do have to pass a test-out to move on to clinicals (taking vitals, inserting an NG tube, inserting a foley, and moving a patient if I recall correctly) but there isn't a "you fail and you're gone" policy (that I know of, at least).
