Starting at Albany medical center in april, moving from home

Published

Hi all, I just got a job at Albany med. I live on Long Island now and I'm moving up to albany in a couple weeks.

I'm 22 yrs old and I've never lived on my own before and I've never worked in a hospital before so as my days at home are coming to an end, I'm getting really anxious and teary eyed. Everything I know is here and I really don't know anyone in albany.

Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped for my new job in the ICU.

I guess I'm just kind of ranting and want some encouraging words.

Also, is anyone else starting at Albany med in April?

Congrats!!! You will be GREAT!!!

From LI all the way to Albany? Did you want to go to Albany or was it a matter of it's a job I'll take it regardless of location?

I applied one day thinking nothing would come of it anyway and then they called me and made me look like an ass. Moving really wasn't something I wanted to do, but they offered me a job on their ICU so that was something I couldn't turn down.

I already have a job down here but it's outpatient and not really something I want to stay in.

How long ago did you apply? I'm living in Albany now, looking for a job. I applied to Albany Med & St. Peter's. I have an interview for St. Peter's but I haven't heard anything back from Albany Med yet.

Honestly its a great opportunity. Finding a job in the city is impossible unless you have some powerful connection, if anything move there for one yr for the experience. Beside I think a lot of people are relocation as long as they have a job offer so I'm sure you'll make friends in no time. Best of luck!

I applied I think between mid December and mid January.

Got a voicemail from the NM that got cut off in the middle so I just got the managers name and that it was for an ICU, had to hunt them down a bit but eventually found them. Same day I got the call they set up a FaceTime interview with me for the following week.

The week after my interview I went up to shadow. Four days after shadowing I had an offer.

That's what I'm planning on doing if I hate it or just decide I want to come back home to LI.

Thanks a bunch :D

I hear that Albany Med isn't the greatest with communication lol. Congrats on your job. I had a second interview with St. Peter's this past Tuesday and shadowed on Wednesday. They offered me a position Thursday. I took the job. :) I don't what LI is like but I really like living in Albany. It's really close to a lot of places, it's not even an hour away from Massachusetts & Vermont. And the drive to Boston is about 3 hours.

Congrats to the both of you! If you all don't mind me asking, what is the starting pay rate for these two hospitals?

Thanks everyone! I'm starting on this coming Monday doing all the classroom work and going over all the typical new hire paperwork.

Just got all moved into my new apartment too so I'm feeling pretty good right now.

Starting pay for me is 22.10. I've got 6mos experience in home care and 6mos in endoscopy. Have my associates.
