Update! I have started working at the VA now. I figured it would be better than UHC anyway. Hopefully this is my last move and I will retire from the VA some day. Hey barefoot lady, what's happening?

Hello ed,

I have been traveling. I have been half way across the country and back, then I went to NC foe a few days. I am so happy you finally got on at the VA. Stay there and stick it out. You will be happy you did. So you are working geri psych? Do you have to do a lot of overtime? Well got to go, clothes need washed. LOL!

I kind of wish I had stayed in the Beckley area and got on at their VA. The big thing about the VAs are you never hear a nurse say, "I worked there for 10 years and finally had enough." Come to think of it, I dont think I ever worked with a nurse who had quit the VA to come to another hospital.

It seems like a great place to work and retire from.

Once you get accustomed to the fact that it IS government and it's top heavy in management more than the private sector. The benefits are great! I worked at the Huntington VA and loved it. I now work at a larger VA hospital in Baltimore, MD and it's OK but it isn't "home". We have had nurses here who have quit and went to the private sector but then again-everyone has to find their niche. Also you can transfer within the system across the US, Puerto Rico and keep your seniority. I wanna come home to WV!!

blueheaven,

the Beckley VA has openings, so xfer if you want to come home.

Good luck.

LOL I know, but I would really like to move back to Huntington (where my family is). I keep watch on the vacareers website as well as OPM. I want to work in ICU. Martinsburg has a bunch of openings but a 90 minute commute isn't my cuppa tea.

blueheaven,

getting back to the hills would be what I would work on first, then xfering down to Huntington later.

funny but lot of people are talking about moving back, hubby went to a reunion over the weekend and several people who have been gone for a long time are already actively in the moving back process. a couple told him they were sick of living behind locked doors, paying high taxes, never seeing a pretty landscape, and having to hunt for pinto beans. LOL.
