a refresher course may be a good idea. you can also contact your board of nursing to find out places that provide refresher courses for individuals without a license. with the tight job market in certain states, it'll be helpful to show employers you have taken a refresher course prior to taking the nclex since you graduated 10 years ago. good luck!

I was out of school for 18 months when I took the NCLEX so I can imagine you feel lost. I agree a refresher course would be smart. In my area, most job postings specify "hospital experience within 5 years." That being said, I used the Saunders book for my review and passed on the first time. Some people prefer Kaplan. You might want to go to a Barnes and Noble or Borders and look at the different review books to see which one fits best for you. Then take the tests at the end of the chapters and read the rationales for ALL the questions, not just the ones you missed. Even if you got the question correct it doesn't mean you really understood it; you might have just guessed correctly. Plus the NCLEX isn't going to word those questions the same way they are in the books. You have to know what the question is asking and what the answer is and why the answer is that. Since it has been a long time since you have been in school, you might want to thoroughly read the chapters as well. Make sure you get a book with a CD. I did tons of questions from the Saunders CD and it really helped me. Best of luck to you.
