I graduated from LPN school a month and a half ago and most of the people that I graduated with are already employed in nursing homes. I knew that I would have a very slim chance of finding employment within a hospital as an LPN, but nevertheless, I have been submitting applications to almost every hospital within and surrounding the Boston area! I spent the last 2 weeks leaving messages for a nurse recruiter who never returned ANY of my calls. I managed to get one other hospital nursing recruiter on the phone, but he eventually mailed me a letter stating the usual..."Thanks for submitting your resume--blah blah blah--we'll contact you if we're interested." After submitting my resume to yet another Boston area hospital, I was emailed the message: "The next time we are hiring new grads is in January 2009---blah blah blah--we'll keep your resume on file for the next 6 months." :chuckle I have 5 years of experience working in the Boston area as a pharmacy tech and a secretary. I thought that having some hospital experience would be beneficial into getting my foot into the door of a hospital setting, but I have only been getting calls from recruiters interested in long-term care careers. I don't want to quickly give up on and head right into a LTC job, but it looks as though that's where I'll start my nursing career.
Have any LPN's had any luck working as a new grad anywhere BUT LTC ? Any suggestions about how I could increase my chances of working in a hospital setting as a new grad? I would appreciate ANY feedback! Sorry this posting is sooo long.
