Staffing question?

Published

I was wondering how many of your facilities uses online staffing vs. paper. And what company or website does your facility use if you use online staffing. And lastly if you use online staffing, "How does your facility handle last minute call ins. Does the online site send out email or SMS alerts, do you have to agree to the shift first before you are assigned to the shift, etc. or does the house supervisor or another person just start calling people, then agencies, etc.? The more detail your answer is the more it will help me. Thanks for your help.

we use Concerro. Management chooses parameters for individuals (must work 2 wk/mo, etc). Individuals set own schedule. Conflicts are worked out verbally before going into computer. This program even knows what certs are required for your job description and when they expire. So if they expire you are off the schedule regardless of what you requested. House Sups do printout prior to each shift, and they have access to the program to make any adjustments for call-ins, etc. That is about all I know.

I believe our hospital system uses optilink. My department uses paper since we are small. Our staff puts their schedule in optilink and it has to be balanced by the scheduler. Conflicts are worked out and the schedule is emailed and printed for a floor copy.

The hospital where I work has a Central Scheduling office that does it online. You have to go into the computer and enter your availability. They will always call before assigning and extra shifts they need to fill. For part timers they always start with the person with the least amount of shifts that week.
