1st year in a new nursing program

Published

Hello. I am a junior in a brand new nursing program (2nd year new). I am taking 17 hours, a mother of 2 beautiful daughters and not enough time to learn all that I need to know. I've been coming on this site for a while now, never actually having time to reply or write a thread(suppose to be studying for finals now!!) lol, But I need some help.

How do I mange all this stress and how do I separate all these classes and teach myself all this material and stay sane?

I am considering scheduling me a Dr.s appt. to be checked for ADHD, because its so hard for me to concentrate! But me knowing the little bit that I do know about meds, i'm not sure if thats a good idea or not. (My daughter is diagnosed with ADD, so I see the actual effects of it and the meds appears to work for her) WHAT DO U THINK? I've tried everything else, including prayer.

I think nursing school is just so overwhelming sometimes. I don't have any children and I just can't imagine meeting the demands of nursing school and having the energy to take care of kids. I have so much admiration and respect for people that go to nursing school with kids. I think first off realize that you have so much on your plate and it's natural to feel completely overwhelmed. Take one day at a time. Seek and support and help anywhere you can find it family members, friends, study groups etc. If you feel like things are out of control and that you might have ADHD definately consult your doctor. They'll be able to tell you whether or not they think something biochemical is going on or whether you just need someone to talk it out with. Another good resource can be your school's counseling center if they have one. I wish you all the best. Hang in there and get yourself some help if you need it!

Nursing school is very stressful, they give you so much information, that it's not even funny. I do work full time, married but, my children are older. However, this is what helped me. My husband was my support system and if your not married maybe parents, friends or family. Also, I study in spurts. maybe 1 hr then stop for a couple of minutes. Also, my books went every where with me, I made note cards, if you have powerpoints, make notes on them. Also, when you have lecture take notes and review what you did the same night or the next night at the lastest. Can you tape the lectures, then you can listen while driving or listen in your bedroom. The med's might be a good idea, you can always stop if you feel they dont work. Good luck, nursing school is not easy however, you can do it and by the way, my graduation date is this friday, December 12th, so yes everything I did helped my through and most of all I prayed also.

are you sure the problem isn't organizing your studying? stress is one thing; studying is another. you either do it or you don't. you mention adhd but none of the symptoms except having a hard time concentrating. you might want to check out
