Hi, everyone I am starting nursing school in august, It is an Adn RN program. At orientation the teachers gave out conversions and abbreviations and recommended that we begin to look over these during the summer. I have been studying them already.
I purchased a "Dosage Calculations Made Incredibly Easy" book. Can there be any harm done by trying to go ahead and learn how to do these calculation by the book during the summer? I would like to have a good understanding of the methods before we begin. I have not received my book yet. Is it something that can be learned from a book?
I also am considering getting my fundamentals book and start browsing through it as well. Anyone have any input on this? Thanks
I went to the afternoon orientation. I am taking the ADN program, 2 year option. Unfortunately I have to take all the general ed stuff again, my college credits were too old to transfer. I'm taking A&P I and Psych with the nursing. Going to be a very busy couple of years, I'm married and have 2 boys, 10 and 4. I'm so excited, I've only been on this board a month or so, but have learned so much. I just wish our text list was out already so I could start reading! Look forward to meeting you!!! :) Karen
Try the Math for Meds book; it's a really good book. I read "Nutrition and Diet Therapy" by Lutz and Pyrztulski - well a good half of it - the summer prior to starting nursing school. That book wound up in all my care plans except for the psych patients.
The "Made Easy" series does have great info but the cartoons annoy the crap out of me. I don't know why! However, the one on IV therapy was wonderful, cartoons notwithstanding. I'd also recommend something on medical terminology and some rest and sleep. Sometimes the books can put ya to sleep. :chuckle

Hello!
Which orientation did you go to in April? I went to the second that was in the evening. What classes are you taking in the Fall (besides the Nursing)?
I have been on this board for quite some time and have NEVER met anyone going to NHCTC. I have even posted on the NH discussion and nobody seems to reply.
Nice to hear from you!
