Hello everyone!

I just applied to The College of St. Scholastica's DNP-PMHNP program in MN for a May 2022 start date. I just wanted to reach out and see what you thought my chances of being accepted were? They said that they will be reaching out with an admissions decision the first week of March, so needless to say I'm going to be anxiously checking my email until then.

Here are my stats:

  • nursing GPA: 3.80
  • cGPA: 3.48
  • Years of psychiatric RN work experience: <1
  • I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology in addition to my BSN, so I'm hoping they'll take this into consideration when reviewing my experience.
  • Attended The College of St. Scholastica for my BSN as a post-baccalaureate nursing student, graduated magna cum laude.
  • I thought my personal statement and secondary essay were great, but I realize that this is completely subjective.

I wasn't sure how many applicants they accept per cycle, how competitive admission to the program was, or what the "typical" applicant looks like for this program, so that's why I wanted to get y'alls input on this.

Thanks so much!

At an info session they said they get about 1.5x more applicants than spots. I'd say that's pretty good odds. I think they still want you to have a year experience at least at the start of the program. At the end of the day they want people who can pass the boards and pay the bills.

I applied within the first deadline and was accepted into the program. I have ~2 years psych nursing experience in the outpatient setting (administering psych meds/triaging psych patients/and care coordination. I think it all depends on how you sell yourself in the essay. When I initially spoke with admissions prior to sending in my application, I was told they care more about your character and your experience than they do your grades from 5+ years ago. I think there are 11-14 spots available and they do save space for the second wave of applicants. Best of luck and reach out to me if you want anymore info! I too just graduated from there with my BSN.

Woohoo! That's great to hear! I'm looking forward to starting classes and meeting you, along with the rest of our classmates, very soon. ?

Hi! I haven't been able to find much on people who applied to CSS post bac nursing program and I noticed you had said you went there for your RN degree. I applied this cycle and I am anxiously waiting to hear back. May I ask, if you remember, what your stats were and how many people were in your cohort? Thank you and congrats on getting accepted into your desired program! I hope school is going well.

My cumulative GPA wasn't even at their requirement, but all my nursing courses both for ASN and BSN were As and Bs. They cared more about my work experience than my grades which was nice. I have quite a bit of mental health nursing experience(~5 years)  in an outpatient setting including psych med administration, care coordination, and triaging. My cohort has 7 people I think? It's quite small. They pay close attention to your essay. The program is going well, it is definitely a lot of work but it goes by quick.

Try not to stress too much but if you do, that's normal! I actually scheduled a meeting with admissions and was like "OK what's my chance of getting in". LOL so.... I'm sure you'll be just fine and I'm happy to answer any other questions you might have.

Same boat here. I'm interested in the accelerated BSN there but no info online.

Is this review on the Post baccalaureate BSN program ? I think that's what she asked but I sounds like you're talking about the DNP/MSN? Thanks
