1st RN job- should i reapply on my 1st choice?

Nurses New Nurse

Published

hi, everyone. i graduated june 2005 but got pregnant right away after graduation...the nurse manager of the med surg unit that i had my externship during my nursing program offered me an IP night shift position on sept. 2005 but declined it through the nurse recruiter because I decided that I would just take the boards first since it will be hard for me and the fetus. Then, my husband and i decided after this to be a stay at home mom until the baby turns 1. I was not able to follow up and update the nurse manager nor the nurse recruiter on what had happen. So, after 2 years of graduation, i passed my boards on June 2007; however, I learned that the hospital is no longer accepting applicants for new grad.

I really would like to work in this unit and I consider the hospital as my first choice. My dilemma is whether to contact the nurse manager of the same unit directly or the nurse recruiter to reintroduce myself again??? Or, just apply fresh in the same hospital? I really like the job>>>>:uhoh3:

If the same nurse manager is still there, I'd talk with her. If you just apply to the hospital, your application probably won't go very far if they aren't accepting new grad applications.

Specializes in Adult Acute Care Medicine.

Yep, I would go straight to the person who actually has the power to hire you. I think it also says something about the type of person/employee you are....you have the ambition to go after the job you really want.

This is how I got my job. I went directly to the nurse manager of the unit where I wanted to work (instead of the 'appropriate' way...an online application)....there were over 100 applicants and two positions. I got one of them.

Good luck! and congratulations on the new baby!

As the previous replies said,go and met with the manager and hear what she has to say and whatever she says then, you'll know what next to do since you really will like to work there.congrats on the birth of your baby and your success in nclex exams then goodluck as you go for what you really want.
