Okay, so I'm still waiting on "the letter".....admittedly, not a long time though. So, I'm asking anyone else out there that is waiting on "the letter" from SPC for the fall semester to write to this thread when they get the letter so I know if/when they are sent out. I will be honest, I am trying not to stalk the admissions director, but am slowly losing my mind. Just got my work schedule for the month of June and I tell you, I don't know if I will make it that long.
Okay, lemme get this straight?! You said micro is easier than A&P, really? I'm also "finishing" prereq's in Fall, except micro in Spring and was told I could apply while taking that, so excited I'm getting closer. I love A&P, but I am worried about micro; maybe it's not as bad as I think it'll be? I have talked to lots of classmates, and nobody knows about professors or micro itself, obviously, since we're all at about the same spot. Any recommendations on professors? and what campus?
Since this is an SPC thread, I might as well ask, and feel silly that I haven't asked the school yet--guess it doesn't matter cause SPC is my only option to not move family--anyway, I might as well not be surprised. Is there an entrance/exit HESI for their ADN, or some other test, seen lots of different acronyms for them. Break it to me easy; I've heard nightmares about people not getting their degree because they cannot pass the exit exam . . . but I'd love to know what tests they use if anybody knows.
You'll have to pass the TEAS. It's just an general education assessment or "Test of Essential Academic Skills" Can you decipher a sentence, can you do a bit of math, that sort of thing.
You take the test right off, they tell you where you need to improve, then you take it again a few years later. very nice of them to give you a chance to see where you need practice! As for good teachers, before you sign up for a class, read up on them on ratemyprofessors.com
Thanks! TEAS doesn't sound so bad. When do they have you take it? When you do your ADN application? Or right before starting?
I use ratemyprofessor A LOT, and it works pretty, but nothing like other classmates or even other professors telling you what to expect from another professor--either way everybody has their own opinion I guess.
Yeah, it's nice how we stick around this forum for a while so you can see some of us make it. In hindsight man I was freaking out over nothing. But nursing school sucks for real. Just happy it's over. Love the learning, hate the power struggles some instructors have with themselves and students. Anyhow, took my end of program exam today, the last true hurdle for me to finishing and I passed it without any issues, 97th percentile out of our group/and nationwide testing. It is a predictive test to assess the likelihood of your passing the nclex the first time attempted and my predictive was 98% likely I'll pass on the first attempt. Which is great. So I'll probably pick up a review book and just do a few questions a day to keep my mind sharp. Management should be a breeze and great learning opportunity.
I know this is an old post, but I'm hoping you can answer a couple questions? I just found out about "end of program" test--I called to see which entrance/exit exams they did, i.e., HESI or whatever. I'm applying in Spring. All they said was "ATI" for entrance (when I look this up, TEAS comes up, but she said she didn't think it was TEAS), can you tell me if that's what it was when you took it; another student on this forum said it was TEAS and now the advisor said it's not within a day of each other -- even though your a couple years out, it might be the same. Also, what was the end-of-program test like; she said it's what you've learned in nursing, but is this something you have to pass to get your degree or is it just to see what your chances are for NCLEX-RN? And, how did you study for it; she told me I would just use my books from nursing.
Any advice on how to study for either? She said you don't have to pass the entrance exam, but why would they give it? Is it just for the schools "numbers" maybe? That didn't make sense to me. Did you use your nursing books for end-of-program exam or did you use a review book for NCLEX?
From what I gather, ATI created the TEAS test...
I've heard you take the TEAS test the day of orientation...saw it in one of the threads here. Big group thing, handing out packets, etc. then they shuffle you off to go take this test...2-1/2 hours worth. More info: http://www.atitesting.com/global/faculty/pre-admission-teas.aspx
ATI has another battery of testing - kind of the 2nd step of a process called the Content Mastery Series...which would make sense taking it at the end of nursing school. More info: http://www.atitesting.com/global/faculty/content-mastery.aspx
Then ATI also has a NCLEX Predicator test: http://www.atitesting.com/global/faculty/nclex-predictors.aspx
It makes sense for them to use one company/one package - for the savings as well as the statistical advantage.
FWIW!

Just to clarify...the above portion of my note is my "theory" of the tests that they give us...I don't have any hard facts to back those up, but based on the answers you were given, it makes the most sense. Either way...an ATI test or a HESI test or ??? to measure nursing knowledge at the end of our education will be pretty similar in nature. If we're lucky it'll be based off of NCLEX-type questions.
Yes, I understand; I think your theory makes perfect sense :) I was told today by the advisor that it is not the HESI; and she repeatedly called the exit exam "end of program" -- I did find a post about SPC's end of program test and replied to it this evening, but it was an old post so don't know if I'll hear back, but it was an SPC student who was taking/had just taken the "end of program" exam. It sounds like the ATI review and Kaplan nursing entrance exam review are the best to study for the TEAS -- those were in one of the threads I found.

Was surprised to see a thread on SPC! New to the board, and still finishing Pre-reqs (done Fall 2009) so I can apply for Fall 2010...hate the wait, isn't there a nursing shortage?!! Scuba-girl - let us know how micro is...taking that in the Spring. Kind of discouraging to hear about the power struggle thing...I'm good at keeping my head down though. Backup plan is to apply at PHCC as everything is transferrable back to SPC for the BSN program. Good luck NSR - my GF up in Maine is sitting for the NCLEX this Saturday. Do they have a specific Review at SPC. My GF did the Hurst review and thought it was awesome. Any other words of wisdom/advise would be appreciated!
