So who all in here is applying for St Margaret trying to get in for Feb start?
Already got application in?
Already heard back?
I only just got my application in this past week, so obviously haven't heard back?
If anyone has applied and heard back, how long did it take to hear?
Also-Does anyone know where I can get my CPR certification before the pre-admission day in January?
Any websites you can provide me with?

Thanks a million!!
Unfortunately where I got mine already had their December class, and their January class isnt until the 29th. If I see anywhere else I will let you know.
http://www.wpahs.org/cgh/events/index.cfm Looks like AGH has it January 5th
http://www.upmc.com/HospitalsFacilities/Hospitals/stmargaret/events/Pages/classes.aspx St Margaret doesnt have classes listed but has a number listed for training....could call and ask.
http://classesandevents.upmc.com/ Through UPMC they recomend this site;
http://www.centerem.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=47&Itemid=34
http://cem.simmedical.com/apps/classes/quick-view-class.asp?class_id=289460 It looks like they have one on the 13th of January.
With all of them call and ask...make sure it is American Heart Association BLS for Health Care Providers CPR with AED card that you will get as that is the only one that is accepted for us.
My little brother is taking the pre-admission test at St.M tomorrow. He is going to apply for admission to the June class so hopefully some of you will get to meet him. :)
Very cool. If he gets in for June he will be with Tmowry, as well as one woman that was in my A&P 2 class (possibly 3 women that were in my A&P 2 class......1 is already in, 2 are applying once have their fall transcript)
hey you feb starters! Are you getting excited?? Do you have everything ready?? did you get your books yet or anything like the syllabus? or do you get all of that the first day? I know some schools give you the sylllabi early so you have assignments done before school starts? my friend just started her LPN school and she had an assignment due the first day of class!
good luck to you all! I can't wait until June...or at least the meet n greet in a few months!
Hope everybody enjoyed their holidays?
Jguy...did your son get your stethoscope for you? which color did he pick for you and what did he get engraved on it? I think that is so sweet!
Our preadmission day is 27th. Are supposed to get our books then, if not be told we can get them a couple days before. Have to go to the physical and drug screening on the 25th. The have it aranged they have a day assigned to go to the St Margaret medical arts building for that, and also to HR for ID. (probably just to take picture I am guessing.) Got all my clearances back so am good to go on that.
They didn't give us a syllabus yet, maybe on preadmission day. Though at the meet and greet in Nov they did give us a tennative schedual of what our first 8 weeks classes would be. Nothing about readings/assignments on it other then test dates and one mention of when a care plan was due.
As for my stethoscope I ended up changing my mind, and decided to wait on the engraved littman for when I can get it engraved with RN after my name . Was up the Pittsburgh Mills and they had a 20% off sale at scrub store they have up there and listened to the stethoscopes they had there and I couldn't tell the difference and then looked up reveiws which seemed decent, so decided a Prestige Medical Clinical I would be good enough for nursing school.....Is normally almost $50 so was a bit less with the sale. Sent my dad and son up for it so son could pick color, and he picked me out seafoam green since i like green....but its transparant colored tubing, not solid seafoam green....looks really cool....they also got me a pen light and scissors while there.
I later went up and got Danskos there too....wish I had gotten them during that sale. I had gotten athletic shoes for clinicals, and wore them around the house for like half an hour and they started killing my feet.....i took them back and decided to look into Danskos....LOOOOOVE them. I called the school because I wanted to make sure they got my transcript, and ended up asking Lori if they were acceptable since I know they handbook says no clogs, and Danskos are technicly considered clogs, and she said they are fine...its no backless clogs or crocs like i thought, and went on to tell me how much she loves them and mentioned that Scrub place at the Pittsburgh Mills always has 20% sale for Nurses Week, the first week of May, even though that would be too late for me starting school. It wouldn't be too late for you picking up anything you need to if you still need you stethoscope and such, or if still needed shoes and were looking into any of the shoes they carry.
Really cant wait for school to start, though am sure I will want a brake soon enough so trying to enjoy my time off till then....though starting to go batty.
Do they let you know when you should start filling out for student loans and stuff? I have no idea why I am worried about that! HAH! I guess you probably got all of that information in your first meet and greet? GUHHHHH.....I can't wait to start!! I am on my last two pre-reqs! I have microbiology...had first class last night....WOW......not certain I am a fan of having a couple tests that are case studies. It's a whole new world than A&P which is what I was used to for the past year..and I even had the same teacher! So I need to find a new rhythm.....and I have Nutrition. Nutrition is online but crap is there a lot of busy work for it.
Good luck! Can't wait to hear your stories when you start.....so I am living vicariously through you guys until I start NS in June! LOLOLOL!!!
Jguy...."Though at the meet and greet in Nov they did give us a tennative schedual of what our first 8 weeks classes would be."I didn't make it to the meet and greet, but I am set to start in February. I am dying to know what the tentative schedule is. Can you share?
It varies.....I mean it is a detailed schedual of what class covers each day and who teaches that day....class/labs/clinicals/tests. Most class days start at 8 am, a few start at 9. How long the day is varies, some days we are schedualled to be done by 11, other days not til 330(i think that is the latest and only a couple run that late), and anything in between. Also a few study days are schedualed in. The tenitive part is anything on the schedual can change, and some things she already knew were changed a little. We will likely get one next week that is updated, but i can try to scan it and send it to you if you want. Like first week is listed, M 8-1, T 8-2, W8-11, Th 8-2, F 8-2 and has what is each of those days, like monday-wed is only class, thursday and friday is class til 12, then skills lab 1230-2...Infection control skills lab, vital signs skills lab....skills labs corrospond with the class that was that day.
The 2 weeks its class mon-friday, then the other 6 weeks we have class mon-wed, and half of our class will have clinicals thursday, other half will have clinicals friday, and we will have a day off. Clinicals we have to be at the hospital at 645....so i guess its meet at the school at 6 then car pool over. As far as which day having clinicals i guess it goes first by who wants what (though most want thursday to have a 3 day weekend) and then names are just randomly drawn. So if you would WANT friday clinical those 6 week, you likely could pick to have it and get it. Though if you want thursday, you likely will have to hope your name gets drawn for it.
She did tell us that in basic 2, adult 1 and adult 2, clinical days will be we go to hospital monday afternoon for patient info, and clinical all day tuesday and wednesday....class monday morning, thrusday and friday. Growing family clinicals are thursday and friday. Basic 2 is 2nd term, adult 1 is third term. Fourth and Fifth term (Next January) The class gets split in half and half does Adult 2 and half does growing family fourth term, and then switch for fifth term.
Do they let you know when you should start filling out for student loans and stuff? I have no idea why I am worried about that! HAH! I guess you probably got all of that information in your first meet and greet?
They havent said anything yet.....im pretty sure financial aid discussions are one of the things going to be handled at the preadmission day.
Thanks for the info! I can't wait until next week!!!!
I can't wait either. Actually went out the uniform place today to try on the samples and get my scrubs and lab coat ordered. Don't have to do that, but then don't have to worry about doing it at the school next week. At the meet and greet day she suggested that it was a good idea to do it if it was possible, because bathrooms are only place we have to change at the school to try them on, and everyone trying to do it will take a while. I'm glad I did go out there.
