I begin school this August, and I would like to be reviewing anything that may help me out prior to school starting. Any advice on what to review or a specific book that may help me? I don't want to over-do it, as I know I will be in for quite the load come August. I just want to have a good base knowledge "brush-up"!!

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!;)

Hi jebain,

First; Congratualations on being accepted into school!!!!

I'm a SRNA at Newman. Understand it is one of your choices. I have been very pleased with the program and would pick it again.

To respond to your post: I would advise reading "Clinical Anesthesiology" by Morgan and Mikhal. Also wouldn't be a bad idea to start looking over the inhalational agents, muscle blockers and reversal agents, narcotics, and anti-hypertensives commonly used in the OR.

Most of all though, enjoy and spend extra time with the loved ones in your life now. The time you have for this WILL be reduced once you start school.

Again, congatulations and good luck

Dave

Same advice I give everyone, and has been given here before by others.

Relax, enjoy your free time.

If you want to read something, M & M is not a bad place to start. I will say that out of the context of a formal program, and having the material presented to you in an oranized manner, unless you are a prodigy. You will do better to wait until you are int he program to learn specifics about the inhaled agents, paralytics, and the like.

Good luck

Can you contact the director of the program and get a suggestion?

What school are you going to?

jebain,

I agree with the others. Relax, have some fun, and spend time with the family...that's what I'm doing! That said, if you want to do some review in your spare time, go to:

There is a study guide with lots of great review that can only help. A lot of great info on this site. Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I have selected to attend Newman, and I am very pleased with the feedback from current and former students. It seems to be the small, friendly, and supportive environment I am looking for in a school. :D

sweetdreams-I look forward to meeting you this August!!!

I would also recommend M&M. A very strightforward book that covers the basics of anesthesia.

Congratulations on your acceptance. I, luckily, just got accepted also. I'm currently looking over M&M. It's very good, detailed, but not over your head. I'm planning on reading over the basic meds and the cardiac and respiratory physiology chapters. I'll probably wait to get too involved in the paralytics, inhalation, etc until school starts.

Good luck in school.

For all you guys that told me this before I was actually in school-----thanks a ton! I started reading M & M awhile back, and I just finished my first month of NA school and wow, we have already covered a quarter of the book!!! For sure, buy it and read the crap out of it (you will anyways if you really like the field).

jebain-

I agree with the M&M...great book which is actually written for humans :). Take a look at this website http://www.pharmacology2000.com to get an idea about some of the pharm. The guy who teaches pharm at the KUMC program developed it, and has been helpful. Other than that, go enjoy yourself.

Thanks guys for the M&M recomendation. I just ordered it from amazon...got a good price too!
