Spring 2014 New Grad Residency Programs -Denver

U.S.A. Colorado

Published

Hi all,

I am finishing up a BSN program in Arizona and will be moving to the Denver area after graduation. My husband has been transferred and is already working there.

Thus far I have applied to UCH's residency and Children's. I did my preceptorship in a level 3 NICU and really hope I can get a position in a NICU. Wondering if there are any others out there not so patiently waiting? I thought obsessing on here might keep me from checking my application status 20 times a day. I know they posted time frames for scheduling interviews - doesn't seem to help:->. Gonna be a long couple of months.

Also, anyone applied/accepted to these programs (or others) in the past have any tips, advice, words of wisdom. I'm a strong student academically, lots of volunteer work with children, 2nd degree mature (aka older) student. Any insights on the type of students that usually get accepted to these programs?

I'm interviewing on Tuesday at Children's for their NICU. My interview is for a general nursing residency position too. Not too sure where that could lead but I'm not too picky.

You'll do awesome there. I'm so excited you got the unit you were wanted.

Good luck lkk0718. I'm sure you'll do great.

southern magnolia- congrats!!! when was your interview may i ask??

Thanks fittness. I interviewed last Tuesday and got the call on Thursday. They said in the interview that I was the last one to interview for NICU & the birth center. How did things go for you? Have you interviewed yet? I thought it was quite daunting having a panel interview but everyone was very nice. I expected several people but there were SIX! Seems like it is going to be a very nice place to work. Now I'm just waiting (STILL) for my ATT.

Yeah my interview was on the 3rd! And one nurse manager was sick, so I was only interviewed by one manager for CICU (phew)...I would have died if there were six people!!! But I just received my transcripts in mail yesterday so I haven't even sent my app in to DORA, I feel as though I may not be able to take NCLEX and get licensed by the start date! I am questioning if I'll take an offer just because of the pay and living across the US, that will be a big move for low new grad pay. Kind of a bummer.

Ah man fittness it will definitely be tight timing wise. It took DORA 1 week to process my app and get my ATT after I hand delivered. The test date is the real hold up but maybe things are better where you are? I'm testing the 28th unless I can get an earlier date. When I spoke to the recruiter she said they highly recommend testing by the 17th but I just don't see how I could have done that since my degree didn't post till the 3rd. Anywho - the pay is definitely less than other places (especially taking the cost of living into consideration). It's the "view tax". Colorado is amazing especially if you are an outdoors type person. I lived here before and couldn't wait to return. I have the advantage that my husband has a good job so I am able to chase my dream without worrying a whole lot about the money end. Though it will be nice to earn a pay check again. Good luck with everything and let me know what happens. It would be nice to "know" someone there.

I hope the timing works out too. I know that UCH will withdraw offer if license isn't completed by deadline. But don't know how they confirm, if you need actual license in hand or if they'll accept an online verification.

lkk0718 - they just need to be able to verify your license online is what I was told today. I'm going to keep checking to see if I can move my test date up.

Hola! I just started a Facebook group for those of us in the UCH February 2014 cohort! Not sure if there was already one made? Anyway it's called "UCH Nurse Residency February 2014"...please only request to join if you are in the cohort. I'm excited to meet you all!

I know this forum is a little old but I was wondering if you had any information on how the whole hiring process went. what was the interview like, what other things you had to do for the hiring process etc... I am thinking about applying when I graduate, wont be for a few years but hey. any information that you can give me would be great! thanks!
