Nursing Students General Students

Hello ,

First off I want to start by saying I am excited about my acceptance to nursing school for SPRING 08! I have a question i am interested in someone giving me information on studying techniques period while in nursing school. I have done a pretty good job in community college studying , but I want to get a more in depth idea of how studying should be done in nursing school. Because i know its crucial. Lastly the class medsurg Ive heard of so many people failing that class in nursing school what do i need to do to pass that class. why do so many people not pass that class? I am interested in any answers thank you and have a nice day. I just want to be prepared if you know what i mean.

I brought a tape recorder to class then listened to the recorded lecture again that night. I was able to fill in parts of my notes that I was not able to catch during lecture. The night before a test I would memorize the notes, then read the required textbook pages for that test. It's an extremely time-consuming process, but it worked and helped me to retain the info in my head and get good test scores.

hey new nursing student, how's classes goin so far. the beginning classes at first would seem uncertain and new to you because instructors teach you how to use critical thinking. I was in the same position as you during my first semester. I transfer from a community college then to a university. The study habit i have in high school and community college is different to a university. I usually do a lot of priorities and reading before and after. Then I usually go over with the notes when i get home. Then on weekends i study and memorize them just to make me feel better. Then i compare my lecture notes with the book so i can learn the lecture better. So good luck on your study habits, you'll find yours too.

thank you so much for the helpful posts. i went to barnes and nobles and skim through that book Test Success and they have some good points on how to study there but the questions and answers are really hard, it really put me down. it just shows how hard it to be a critical thinker. I wish i could get some practice questions regarding the fundamentals of nursing and theory class since Im having my first test on this coming week...

I got frustrated by the dearth of Fundamentals-specific questions in most general NCLEX prep books, so I went out and got Review and Rationales for Fundamentals by Mary Hogan. Each section has 20 questions, plus another 30 on the CD, plus a great little review outline. I like this series, but check out Straight As or Made Incredibly Easy too and see which format you like best.
