Hey.
I have a few years before I'm eligible to travel. I'd like to take the advice of many on here and get some solid experience in the hospital before packing up and putting out fires around the country! But I have another dilemma... my fiance is very supportive of my career and my goals. He's finishing up his degree in communications as I am this year and trying to decide what he would like to do next spring. He's very open to a variety of possibilities as it will be his first career. But he is also intent on marrying me, after we graduate, and would like to find a career that would be compatible with my travel aspirations.
I was wondering... has anyone travelled with a spouse? What sorts of jobs did your spouse have, if any? I know that journalism would be his ultimate goal and of course, he can write from anywhere. But I don' t know how realistic it is for us to count on a career in journalism... I understand that they can be quite challenging to startup. I also know he would be willing to get a teaching license and teach h.s. English but most assignments are 13-26 weeks right? I don't know if we want him hopping in and out of school districts every year. I guess he could substitute teach but I'm not sure how satisfying or regular that work would be...
Anyone else had trouble with this issue or conquered it successfully? Can you help us brainstorm?
Thanks!

Hello
I don't know much about a career in communications but your fiance' would have to find contract work. It definitely would not be a good idea to teach b/c as you said assignments are short term. It would not look good if he was starting and quiting jobs every few months. (probably wouldn't get a good reference from the previous employer when applying for the next job) He would probably have to be flexible and possibly willing to do work unrelated to his degree. Do a web search for contract companies with short term work. I traveled for 6 yrs when I was single and now I'm married and about to start traveling again. My husband is a dentist and is hoping to be able to find short term work at local offices where ever I end up. But, who knows, it may not work out for us either. Best of Luck to you.

I travel with a son and spouse. My son works at fast food restaurants, and tells them that his mother is a contract nurse and so far he has gotten a job every where we have went. My husband is retired, so he is an official househubby.
This is my suggestion for your fiance... do the substitute teaching and do some freelance journalism/writing. There are quite a few places online where he can place his resume and bid for jobs.
Hope this helps.

Our current assignment is for 26 so I may look for P/T work.
