Hey. I have a few years before I'm eligible to travel. I'd like to take the advice of many on here and get some solid experience in the hospital before packing up and putting out fires around the country! But I have another dilemma... my fiance is very supportive of my career and my goals. He's finishing up his degree in communications as I am this year and trying to decide what he would like to do next spring. He's very open to a variety of possibilities as it will be his first career. But he is also intent on marrying me, after we graduate, and would like to find a career that would be compatible with my travel aspirations. I was wondering... has anyone travelled with a spouse? What sorts of jobs did your spouse have, if any? I know that journalism would be his ultimate goal and of course, he can write from anywhere. But I don' t know how realistic it is for us to count on a career in journalism... I understand that they can be quite challenging to startup. I also know he would be willing to get a teaching license and teach h.s. English but most assignments are 13-26 weeks right? I don't know if we want him hopping in and out of school districts every year. I guess he could substitute teach but I'm not sure how satisfying or regular that work would be... Anyone else had trouble with this issue or conquered it successfully? Can you help us brainstorm? Thanks!

I have been trying to get my foot in the door at the hospitals in Austin. I won't graduate for a few more months but the recruiters I've spoken to here do not seem interested in... well, recruiting. Last month I called for several weeks before a recruiter even returned my call. And then there was no small talk or interest in my academic experiences, my clinical experiences or my plans to move to Austin. There were only 2 questions "When will you graduate?" and "What do you need to know about the hospital? Have you visited the website?" I was very disappointed that no tours or preliminary visits were setup in areas of interest to me. I had a very different experience in Houston. Recruiters returned calls promptly and were more than happy to have me tour hospitals and meet the nurses there. I wanted to consider nursing in Austin when I graduate but now I'm not very sure. Is this a typical recruiting effort in Austin? Are G.N.s treated with more respect and value? Do I need to wait until I'm just a month or two from graduation before contacting recruitment here? I look forward to any insight on being recruited here in Austin or being a G.N. here from those who have been through it or been part of it in recent years. Thank you.
