Hey I need to take a Spanish course for nurses, can anyone recommend one? Do you take it? THanks. I want to be able to do an ER assessment without using the translation phone.

I need this too. I just met a coworker who is going to the same LPN school I graduated from. Maybe if I help him with PN school he can help me with Spanish (he is Latino and is bilingual). This way I can learn "real" Spanish vs. "classroom" Spanish.

For medical Spanish I took private lessons online with Language Bird . I would recommend bringing your very specific goal conducting an ER assessment to your teacher so you can practice those exact situations. I completely agree with the other posters that learning the foundations will be necessary and I would add that at the end of the day, practice makes perfect. No textbook, standard curriculum or class will prepare you for ER assessments like actually role-playing ER assessments.

Also, another poster mentioned a medical Spanish textbook. Also helpful! Carry that thing with you everywhere so you can study it bit by bit.

A patient's son and I were just discussing this same topic yesterday. I studied Spanish for 8 years, took and passed an AP class and exam as a senior, and could speak Spanish fluently. Fast forward 15 years, I don't remember 75% of what I once knew. He suggested that learning from a native Spanish speaker as opposed to a classroom usually yields better results because traditional classes don't teach you slang or how people "really" speak. But I still have the basics: "¿Dónde está el baño?" and "¿Se vende la cerveza?" :o)
