Southern Oregon pay rates?

U.S.A. Oregon

Published

Hi!

My future in-laws are moving to the Grants Pass area and are trying to entice us to move with the prospect of free rent and our own house on their property (pretty nice, eh?). The only problem I can see is the pay cut I would recieve from moving from Northern California to Oregon. The research I have done found the average starting hourly is $23-25/hour. Is this correct? Also, what is the average differential for nights? Trying to see if this is a feasible move.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I would say that the 23-25 is about right, for a starting salary (ie. 0-3 years experience)...if you have a lot of experience it may be higher. I know of places that pay higher depending on what area you want to work in. Most hospitals in the area pay about 3-4 $/hr night differential...

feel free to pm me with questions...

I reread a previous post of yours that stated that you started at about 33 as a new grad...with 5-6 night diff...I don't know if anywhere in Oregon offers that kind of starting salary to a newer RN...there may be some specialty places but most hosptials are probably a lower (but someone please correct me if I am wrong...I haven't really looked into the Portland area wages...)

In most of the Portland hospitals the base pay rate is 23-25/hr, too. Golly, 33/hr that would be nice...course the cost of living up here is probably a lot less. Even specialty places don't start higher than 25/hr. Differentials vary widely from hospital to hospital.

Hi

I work in the hospital here in Grants Pass. I graduated in June and started with 23.85/hr. I think shift pay is 4.00 not sure I work in the OR.

$10.00 an hr is a big difference. I guess it comes down to what you really would like to do. What is more important to you? Yes, you would be saving by not paying rent or mortgage but your pay cut is something like 2,000 a month right?

I moved from Southern California about 9 years ago and don't regret it. I do miss all the entertainment available there but GP is a better place, I think.

Hopefully this info helps.
