Looking to start an assignment in Southern California. I am new to traveling and I was just wondering what a "fair" take home weekly pay is right now? I am kinda of confused by taxable, nontaxable, overtime, hourly.. and all that stuff they through in there. I just want to make sure an assignment I take makes comparable money so I am not getting ripped off on my first assignment! Thanks!

Southern California tends to pay in sunshine when compared with other parts of CA. Where is this contract specifically? Southern California comprises of many cities and demographical areas. Specialty? Company? Etc. There are many factors in determining what is a fair wage as a traveler.
It would be a good thing for you to spend the time to learn the differences between taxable hourly, non-taxed money, reimbursements, per diem, etc. That is something that's fairly important for you to know and understand. What is the confusing part about it all?
You will learn something new with each assignment whether from the assignment itself or from another traveler.
ICU placements.12 hour nights. San Diego or outside Los Angeles areas. So far I have been told after everything non taxable, taxable, housing, and daily food and incidentals take home pay per week would be around 700-800 per week. Is this about average?

Then go to pan travelers and use the calculator and you can look at the bottom lines much easier.

I worked the min 36 hours, I got $280 per week in tax free, I had free housing, and my check weekly was about $950 take home after taxes, etc. Remember tho, I had health insurance and 401k withdrawn. I think $1000/wk take home for California would be as low as I would go, and that is not including housing. Depending on area, you might expect $2000/month roughly for housing. If you get your own housing, I would expect at least $1500/wk take home. There are a lot of things to consider. $700 sounds very low for any state, especially CA. But this is just one opinion.

I made $27.50/hr first 8 and 1.5x last four, $245 weekly in per Diem, and $2500 monthly for housing stipend. This was in San Diego. Which is a fairly good wage for San Diego travel jobs.

What company was this and with what specialty? I start a travel assignment on Monday in San Diego and this sounds a little better than what I'm being offered.
ICU. It was an AMN contract.
