South Dakota State University - ABSN

Published

Hey everyone,

I haven't seen any threads about South Dakota State University and their nursing program. I know that they have an accelerated program in Sioux Falls and recently opened one in Aberdeen, SD. I am not from South Dakota but am applying all over. Anyone have any information regarding either of these programs? I have already applied and have an interview but would love more insight.

I did my undergrad at SDSU it is the best school in South Dakota, IMO....GO JACKS! SDSU is notorious in this area for producing wonderful nurses. The standard nursing program through SDSU is rigorous from what I hear so I suspect the accelerated is just as difficult if not more. However, if you were accepted and chose to go through SDSU you could rest assured you would have a great nursing education, plenty of hands on experience, and come from a program with a good reputation. I am doing an accelerated program in Sioux Falls through USF because the program seemed to be a better fit for me, but SDSU produces great nurses!

Thanks for the info! I am a little worried though because the program I am applying to is a newer one a the North Dakota State campus in Aberdeen, and that seems like a teeny town! Are you from South Dakota @kellseybellsey ?

DISCLAIMER: I just changed my user name! :) haha BUT yeah I am from South Dakota, The accelerated program through SDSU is newer, but SDSU has had a nursing program for a long time so I would not have a single concern about the quality of education there. The town of Aberdeen on the other hand isn't the biggest or funnest town in SD but it would be easy to study if there is nothing else to do i guess lol. Sioux Falls is a bigger town so if that is what you like Sioux Falls is your place. SDSU is going to be a great education no matter what town you are in. If you are really unsure about the town of Aberdeen and are set in starting an accelerated program in January, check out the program I am going to at the university of sioux falls. They are accepting applications through October I believe!

Okay thanks @eagerbeaver13!! What part of South Dakota are you from? I live in San Diego, CA...so this would obviously be an ENORMOUS lifestyle change haha.

How long/how much is the program you are going to?!

I am from the Black Hills of South Dakota, which is a 6 hour drive from Sioux Falls. The program is 15 months compared to the 12 month program through SDSU. The price was roughly 20,000 or so, which I believe was cheaper than the SDSU accelerated. Also from what I hear, because USF is 15 months they offer more breaks for Christmas, spring break, summer break etc which appealed to me versus the 12 months of little to no break.

Thanks for the info! I just looked up the program and I am going to apply. I see the deadline is in October...I hope it doesn't fill before then. This is the cheapest ABSN program I have found, so I am definitely interested.

Do you know how full it is? Thanks!!

Im glad you found this helpful! I have no clue how full it is so far but I do know they take up to 30 students

Hi Marmar13!

I just came across your post and wondered what program you decided to attend, SDSU or USF? I am also from San Diego, so I'm wondering what you transition was like and if you had any other insight!

Hi,

I got interview offer from South Dakota and came cross this post there is no other post for South Dakota ABSN program. If anyone you got addmission or finish the program. Can please share how was the interview. and how is over all program?

Hi Sam2018! I am a current student at SDSU at the Aberdeen campus! I am will be starting term 4 soon (in about a week) out of 5 so I am super excited to finishing up in December! I think the program has been great. It is very fast paced but it is totally doable. I believe they are truly prepping us for what we need to know to pass nclex. As I have mentioned I am at the Aberdeen campus and I think it is a great place to stay focused on your studies, as there is not a ton to do! I highly recommend the program! I hope your interview went well!

Hi I was wondering if anyone who go accepted could provide us with your pre-req/cumulative g.p.a? I am interested in the sdstate program and would like to know what it takes to be competitive?
