UGH. God my throat hurts. So bad that I can barely swallow. Even hurts to touch my Adams apple. Im throwing a big pity party and everyone is invited. Im tempted to hit up one of the ER docs for some drugs. This is ridiculous. I can barely talk! (Much to my coworkers delight).

I'm seeing lot's of pharyngitis cases this year, some are strep, most are not. Probably a nasty rotavirus going around. I'm seeing a lot of patients with the classic big four (fever >100.4, ant chain LN enlargement, absence of cough, and big ol +4 tonsils with exudate) whose strep screen and DNA probe are negative for strep. Man, they can get mean when I don't Rx amoxil!! (I would too). Here's hoping you feel better soon...and don't need need abx!!

What all goes into your strep screen? I somehow managed to get GBS in my throat, with no naughtiness involved, swears! Rapid strep negative, but the secondary culture grew out. I think I got it at work somehow, since I work with the babies. And a friend of mine, who I work with, got group... C? D? One of the two, that's apparently usually found in farm animals. Weirrrrrrrrrrrrrd.

Ohhhhh, I feel for you. Every few years I get pharyngitis and tonsillitis so bad that my already-large tonsils nearly touch each other, I can't talk, and I'm laid up in bed with a fever. Once it was so bad my doc sent me to the ER for IV abx.

I just bribed a lab tech into doing a rapid strep (admitted a pt who ended up being positive for strep last week!) Mine was neg, thankfully!

Ive had sore throats before, but never so sore that it actually hurts to touch my adams apple from the outside. God it hurts....Im trying hot tea right now. :(

Ok, what in the heck would cause it to hurt from the OUTSIDE? Its excrutiating and Im obsessing about it now.

I'm right there with you as of Tues. morning. I don't think I remember my throat being so sore since the last time I had strep and that was eons ago. Going to doc today so I'll find out. The nurses in my unit have all been passing it around but I'd been lucky for weeks....looks like my luck ran out.:(

Sounds like you need to seek out the advice of your PCP, 2shihtzus.
