Soon to be new grad looking for hospital info

Hi guys,

I will be graduating this July (had one last stupid class to finish so May was out for me).

Anyways, I am in the south suburbs (Joliet area) and I am looking for any information you guys can provide on the Chicagoland hospitals. I currently commute downtown Chicago for work so commute time isn't really a problem for me.

Which hospitals should I avoid (if any)?

Which hospitals have good training programs for new grads?

Which hospitals have better salary/differentials?

I would really appreciate any information you guys mights be able to provide.

Loyola is fantastic if you are looking for intensive care or trauma experience. If you are interested in gaining med-surg exp. first, avoid Loyola!

Carle Foundation Hospital in Champaign has a fantastic Nurse Internship program. They will give you the tools you need in every area of the hospital.

There are other hospitals in the Chicago area who have Nurse Internship programs.

Nursing spectrum is having a job fair soon. You can check them out at www.nursingspectrum.com. Chicago Tribune also has Nursing job fairs quite often. As you go through these fairs, ask about internship programs.

Look at areas that you excelled in and enjoyed while in school. Many managers are getting past the idea that you need to have med-surg experience before going into critical care. You can learn what you need from great preceptors and experience.
